AFC – Zarqa City, The fight for top spot in Group E of the AFC U1-9 Championship 2018 Qualifiers promises to be intense after Islamic Republic of Iran and Syria played to a 1-1 draw while hosts Jordan opened with a 2-0 win over Palestine on Saturday.

With only the top team assured of an automatic berth in the Final in Indonesia next year, the dropped points could prove costly for Iran and Syria.

The opening tie at the Prince Mohammad International Stadium in Zarqa City, Jordan was an evenly contested affair but the first half ended scoreless.

Syria had a dream start to the second half when A. Shalha gave them the lead.

Iran, however, were not about to give up and fought back to equalise through H. Nokhodkar.

Syria play Palestine next while Iran will face Jordan.
