Tehran Times – TEHRAN, Ali Daei was named as new head coach of Saipa football team on Saturday.

Saipa parted company with Hossein Faraki by mutual consent last week after the team finished 13th in the Iran Professional League (IPL).

Daei, who announced his retirement as Naft Tehran coach after winning Hazfi Cup on Thursday, signed a one-year contract with Saipa for an undisclosed fee.

Ex-Iran striker Daei led Saipa win Iran Professional League in 2006-07 as a player and a coach.

In June 2008, he left Saipa by mutual consent.

The former captain of the Iran national football team, who has played for clubs such as Bayern Munich and Hertha BSC, is the world’s all-time leading goalscorer in men’s international matches.
