AFC – BANGKOK, A Hossein Tayebi treble helped secure a 6-2 victory for defending champions Tasisat Daryaei over Lebanon’s Al Mayadeen on Sunday as the Iranians advanced to the quarter-finals of the AFC Futsal Club Championship as Group B winners while their opponents were eliminated.

Needing just a point to top the group, Tasisat went in front as half-time approached at Bangkok Arena when Tayebi (pictured, left) rounded off a fine flowing move, before the forward scored a quick-fire double early in the second half to complete his hat-trick.

Dragan Tomic pulled one back soon after and Mohamad Kobeissy continued the comeback, only for Alireza Vafaei to score twice and Vahid Shamsaee to round off the scoring to mean Uzbekistan’s Almalyk FC qualified ahead of Al Mayadeen by virtue of superior goal difference.

Al Mayadeen had the first sight on goal inside two minutes when Serbian Tomic hit the top of the crossbar after being picked out by Khaled Takaji.

Tasisat began to take hold of the game, though, and Tayebi made space for himself on the edge of the area before firing just wide midway through the half.

The forward then almost broke the deadlock in the 12th minute when his silky flick was expertly saved by Hussein Hamadani, before he came even closer a minute later by lashing against the post.

The holders then took the lead a minute before the interval after a lovely move involving captain Shamsaee, Mohammad Shajari and Tayebi.

Veteran Shamsaee’s pass was dummied by Tayebi before he spun into the middle to get on the end of Shajari’s centre for an easy finish.

Tasisat opened up a two-goal gap just seconds after the restart when Reza Sangsefidi broke through the middle before playing in Vafaei, who then found Tayebi for another tap-in as the hitman moved to the top of the tournament’s scoring charts with four goals.

And Tayebi then completed his hat-trick on 23 minutes when he powered past Hamadani, only for Tomic to restore hope two minutes later with a finish from close in.

Kobeissy pulled another one back with 15 minutes still to play, and Tomic then saw his effort come back off the inside of the post on 12 minutes as a nervy encounter ensued.

But Vafaei tapped in with four minutes remaining before rounding Hamadani and tapping in to put the result beyond doubt.

Shamsaee then capitalised on a power-play to lob into an empty net from his own half as the holders made it two wins from two.

Tasisat Daryaei coach Amir Shamsaei:
“We are getting better game by game. The first game was like a practice session. But in this game we were smoother. We are not at our peak yet. You will see in the next game that all the players will be much better. We have no choice now, every game we must be at our best. Hossein Tayebi is key and he loves to score goals. But behind him is the harmonisation of a good team and it doesn’t matter who scores the goals.”

Al Mayadeen coach Vasko Vujovic:
“We played a good game and were brave with a good heart on the field. We tried for a good result to get to the next stage but we were not lucky. We had some chances, but from the start we had bad luck. I always tell the players to believe until the last moment. In this competition we have played two very good games and now we’ll go back to Lebanon to work hard and come back again. We take a lot of positives (out of the tournament). We were organised very well, but we want more chemistry for the next championship.”
