FIFA makes UAE recognize the “Persian Gulf”

Persianfootball.com – TEHRAN, The international football governing body made a bold statement on political influence on football agendas in Arab countries around the Persian Gulf by officially recognizing the historical name of the waterway.

The United Arab Emirates football federation had revoked the historic name “Persian Gulf” and used the internationally unrecognized term “Arabian Gulf” to rename their football league.

The Arab action faced intense objection by Iranians such that Iran football federation banned Iranian professional players from playing for clubs in that country.

Subsequently, the Iranian Football Federation, through the Department of State, condemned the falsification of historic documents.

Also, the Iranian Football Federation sent a letter to FIFA demanding action against this politically motivated act.

As a result, FIFA and its website has now explicitely confirmed the correctness of the historic name of the “Persian Gulf”.
