While I might agree with some of what you say, we shouldn't use players who put in effort for TM as some sort of example to mock.

Mohammad Ghazi played full force whenever he wore the TM shirt and was definitely part of our campaign to the WC. He played with heart, which is all that I can ask.

And Arash Afshin was a CQ regular until his long term injuries and sarbazi suspension. If he avoided those 2 factors it wouldn't be far fetched to say he might still be part of TM today.

I believe you and Ghermez Agha misunderstood the point of my post. I never insulted Ghazi or Afshin. I know they did well for us at the time. There are some that predict these IPL starlets will be amazing though, and downplayed the quality of our foreign-based players. As I said, I'm not a fan of hype/bash until the player has had a decent shot at TM. I don't appreciate guys like Ghazi and Afshin or Rahmani or Sadeghian or really any of those guys getting such hype and benefit of the doubt while others don't. I didn't mean to pick on these specific players. They were examples of certain hyped players, not that they as individual players did anything less than play admirably for TM. Hope that clarifies why I referenced them specifically. I can probably list 50 players like this, just happened to be two that came to mind.

I never claimed to agree with the idea that CQ is "directly", or "indirectly" responsible for a few of our players playing in Europe.

but here is a question:

if you were a scout working with European clubs, wouldn't you be looking at some of the players that someone like Carlos Qeiroz is coaching? perhaps for some cheap bargains for second/third/fourth tier clubs?
our fans misjudge our coaches on both sides of the argument. naturally, understandable!

And to add on to that, CQ took away the mentality of Team Melli where if you were good at some point, you are guaranteed a starting spot, no matter your current fitness. Now, no one is guaranteed a starting spot unless they work hard for it. We've seen this countless times when people like Ando or Gucci have been benched because of mediocore performance. That in turn, creates more competition for the players, prompting them to move to Europe if they want to get better or stay fit in order to retain their spot on Team Melli.

If CQ had so much influence on players decisions to go to Europe, then why Pouraliganji ended up in Qatar while he made his debut under CQ? Please do not exaggerate.

At the end of the day, a player has his own ambitions and can think independently to choose Europe above IPL or PGL leagues. Azmoun, Jahanbakhsh & Ezatolahi were not even part of TM senior when they moved to Europe for example.

Surely CQ made some changes in mentality thanks to his professional and European coaching approach, but he's not the direct reason we have more players in Europe now than before. Our next generation of talents are more clever now and realized that they can maximize their potential by playing football only in Europe.

You are chosing one player out of a whole bunch....how can 1 person disprove that? especially when these players have verbally said before that CQ/TM call ups is the reason? You cant keep referecning one specific scenario when there are far more that say otherwise. thats a failed point.

You just proved my point....sardar, JB, and ezzi all moved to europe to give themselves a chance because it wasn't presented to them at the time in Iran. Axmoun knew it would have taken him years to get playing time in Iran, JB was starting to play more for a bottom table PGL team, and Ezzi was just breaking through the 1st team of Malavan. which of these 3 scenarios would get them noticed by a TM head coach? the answer is none.......now we saw what moving to europe did.

To many on this forum, CQ hasn't done much, Iran made it to Brazil in spite of him. Ghoozi or any IPL coach could have done as well as CQ.

I'm pretty much with Ando on this....I agree with the bigger picture of what you're saying but it's not right to belittle the guys who came in when called on and contributed a good attitude and good effort. In particular both afshin and ghazi who both had promise in their own respect also had a series of unfortunate events to go along with their careers.

The more I read/watch interviews of our recent players that have moved to europe, I notice that most of them if not all have referenced CQ as a reason to move there. And for the ones that did not - its basically implied when they say they have a higher chance at making it to TM if they go to europe.

A lot of these guys are going to be a part of what I believe is Iran's next golden generation. We have never had this high of an influx of young iranian players move to europe - and by young I mean under 23 or not too much older (with the exception of one or two guys like ARH and Reza). Just take a look at the current list of players we have in europe:

1. Azmoun - Rostov
2. Ezzatolahi - Rostov
3. Jahanbakhsh - AZ
4. Milad Mohammadi - Terek Grozny
5. Hajsafi - FSV Frankfurt
6. Ansarifard - Panionios
7. Alireza Haghighi - Mairitimo
8. Reza Ghoochannejhad - Charlton

Now to add to this, the clear potenitals that are likely to make a move or are atleast capeable of it:

1. Mehdi Taremi
2. Mehdi Torabi
3. Alireza Beiranvand
4. Ramin Rezaeian
5. Kaveh Rezaie
6. Vahid Amiri
7. Rouzbeh Cheshmi
8. Mehrdad Mohammadi
9. Morteza Poolaliganji (given he is only 23 I guess I havent completely given up on him)


My point here is we clearly have a lot of talent....I haven't seen this much talent in a while in Iranian football. And something I want to adress here is that I am tired of reading comments like "none of these guys can be like kia or hashemian bc they are playing in russia or holland" or "we still don't have a legionaire in a top 3 league but kenya does WTF" do you people realize JB's or azmoun's age? theyre freaking 21 and 22 for crying out loud...do you honestly think they don't have aspirations to make it big in the next few years? What would be the point of sacrificing the money and glamour in Iran for these moves? These are some of the most professional footballers we have had since our last goilden generation...both on and off the field at VERY young ages which is why I am making these comparisons.

Again, I'm not going to say X is going to be better than kia or Y is going to be better than nekounam but rather that they are taking to right steps. I give most of, if not all the credit to CQ for making this mentality much more common among younger footballers in our country.
