Thoughts?

The better option was to bring Hajsafi to the left wing and use Kanaani in CB. Maybe use Pejman Montazeri in LB for a change. Perjman is a good and cautious defense, he may be a new breeze for us. Hajsafi is not good in LB. I would use Hajsafi in LW.

In brief my suggestion will be

1. Use Kanaai in CB
2. Use either Montazeri or PAG in LB until we find a new LB.
3. Use Hajsafi as LW in first half and bring him back for second half and replace him in LW with Vahid Amiri
4. Invite Yaghub Karimi and Ali Karimi to the team.
5. Use Omid Ebrahimi and Ali karimi combo in DMF; Bring Saeed Ezatollahi in second half
6. Test Yaghoub Karimi as Play maker
7. Use Dejagah in RW
8. Start with Azamoun and bring Kaveh Rezai in last 30 minutes.

I like the Ezatollahi move alot. Throw him in there and see how he does against top notch opposition. This is not a weak minded kid and his moves to Europe at such a young age is proof. I don't think he can be tested playing against India or Guam.


Ofcourse with Ezatollahi in the game, you have to take Ando out. It makes no sense to have Ezatollahi and Ando in the lineup at the same time. You're giving up too much speed which would be playing right into Japan's strength. I am not a fan of Ebrahimi and he certainly did have some bad moments against Oman, however, I don't think CQ has a choice. Ebrahimi is that "meeeh" kind of player. Nothing spectacular and certainly no where close to Nekounam, but, he is a safe option.

yup ezatollahi will have extra motive to prove him self, if he play good he might play as a creative mid beside ando against guam and turkmenistan, if we can beat this japan team will be a good game, we need to remmber we are playing home, they are scared and we need to win

Yeah that's true. But look at Ando's latest horrible run of games (basically since he moved to Qatar btw), he has been much worse than Ebrahimi yet some people here are wishing for him to play over Omid. It's a mystery for me, sometimes people "gir midan" to some specific players

But anyways, it's obvious that CQ really likes Ebrahimi and now the reality is that he has been judged good enough to start tomorrow.

yeah thats true, ando is the first culprit IMO because if anyone is supposed to pick up the slack in neko's absence its him so its fair to point a finger at him first/as well. being that hes been one of our best players in the last decade there is an understandably higher level of tolerance for him to mess up because hes done a lot of good whereas ebrahimi hasnt done much....I think thats what the mentality is behind the criticsm at least. I'm hoping for a good game from ebrahimi and ezzatolahi more than any two guys on the pitch....they really need to show something (at least ebrahimi does).

Its strange how the lineup was announced so early. For the last 5 years any time he has been asked the night before a game what the line up is, CQ has never disclosed it. Maybe because it is a friendly?

Anyway, I like Rezaeian on the right mid/wing. He is versatile and can play all along the right side really, I think he will fit in fine there. If he plays well he can make a real claim for himself in that position. I would have liked to see Pouraliganji play, but I am sure he will get some minutes at some point in the match?


Is this a 3 substitution friendly? Or can the teams do more?

I thought with most friendlies you could substitute 8 players? Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought that was the case. CQ may change most of the team at HT, which is why he is starting with Rezaeian. He likely intends to bring Taremi, K. Rezaei, Ando, and others in for the second half to experiment.

I actually really like the lineup, it's a pretty physical one and counter-attack based, it's going to be effective vs Japan who usually struggle against such sides. I would have also preferred Beiranvand in goal too tho

Rezaeian can play there, he played regularly in that position with Rah-Ahan, he will surely play as a Right midfielder and not really as a winger. I think that this can really work well as he is the best Iranian crosser IMO and this could work really great with Azmoun's aerial threat and the big height advantage that we have over Japanese players

As much as everyone for some reason hate Ebrahimi, he is a safe option and never has any major f*ck ups. He is the ideal player for CQ and there is a reason why he was consistently invited in his teams since 2012.
