Haghighi is far from perfect, but we have no better alternatives. We should stick with him for now, continuously switching goalkeepers won't benefit our team at all. And before you all start jumping on me judging Beiranvand on only one single game, his blunders were unacceptable IMO. Imagine if we played a do or die WCQ game, he can't afford to make these.

Huh? Mate he's 22, he's obviously not perfect, in fact I can think of Haghighi doing these types of mistake even now at 26 years old.

    Look at Courtois here:

    here

So Belgium and Atletico at the time should have dropped him right? These blunders are unacceptable as well, but even much worse than Beiranvand's.

Wrong logic used. Now maybe that's the only game of his you watched and you judge from that, but to those that watched him on long term, he's absolutely amazing for his age and incredibly consistent.

Agreed and disagreed at the same time. I agree with the fact that he has time to get better as well, and I think he will, but I don't believe he will become a lot better than what he is now based off of his development this far into his career. I really wasn't too surprised when he got the nod, I knew going into Brazil the #1 spot was up for grabs. We'll just have to wait and see how much better he gets, for now he needs to improve on lowballs and penalties until I can believe he has a lot more room to get better.

......and today he single handedly go this team 3 points. Probably has gotten naft somewhere between 9-12 points in the league as well, if not more.

Baradar, you have to learn that when you're making an argument, one or two sooti's here and there don't cancel out countless amounts of saves and nice assists. With your logic, messi, Ronaldo, bale, ibrahimovic, etc. should all be cut from their NT's after a bad game.....everyone has them bro. Have you watched him in the PGL or even today against one of the strongest teams in west asia? It doesn't sound like it, he is impressing week in week out for the longest time now.

Kiarash jan, you are simply judging him on that one single game. it can go both ways. what if we were in a very crucial WCQ against south korea and Haghighi gets a red card like he did in his last game? or concede the goal he conceded against albania? did you see Biers game today? he was a monster Beast.

Wow, for the second goal against Nasaf I don't understand why he didn't punch it back in the field outside the box or simply hold onto it. It didn't seem that difficult of a shot to control. First goal he was hesitant and had a delay, by the time he decided to go out and punch it the striker had beat him to it.

Back to the original topic, Haghighi seems to be doing a decent job, I was just surprised that he didn't manage to stop one penalty against Iraq. I understand that he was fatigued and played for 120 minutes, but I figured he would stop one penalty. My question is how come Ahmadi doesn't get any playing time? I know that Davari is inconsistent and didn't get any playing time but I'm curious to know why Ahmadi didn't get playing time.

I can't say the same about Haghighi. I don't know what it is with him, but I never saw/see anything special in him. I love his determination and charisma, but I would compare his situation with Mignolet's situation when he was the first choice goalkeeper of Belgium. Then it was Courtois who slowly took over the role. Same as Haghighi, Mignolet was consistent, but Courtois is just something else.
I like this comparison a lot, fully agreed. I feel that haghighi is somewhere close to hitting his peak meanwhile beiranvand has so much time to grow and certainly has the potential to be a world class keeper. Also zandi's point is really important too, I can't remember ever seeing a GK in Iran that is this good and consistent this early on in their careers....in the past it has taken keepers a long time to impress the way he has over the last two years or so. Hopefully beiranvand can manage to get into a European team this summer, I can only imagine how nicely he can grow.

But I really think Big B should invest in a decent haircut - this 1957 style is NOT what we need in TM!

Big B sounds like a Burger join! I think Bieranvand is the future, but Haghighi still hasn't done anything to lose his position in TM. Perhaps as you suggest, playing in second tier club in Portugal might hurt his game, but since he is the keeper playing against better teams, he will really be match ready at the national level barring any serious injury or complications.

The fact that we can have this debate in a positive manner bods well for the future of TM in the GK position.

Beiranvand has a lot of talent and has been very impressive recently and at a very young age, something I have not seen in a while with Iranian keepers. He's only 22, extremely young for a keeper and I predict that he will replace Haghighi sooner than we think. His long throws, goal kicks are better than Haghighi and can be very useful for a counter attacking team like Iran. I would say he is probably better at penalties as well and his reflexes are almost there.

For the time being I'd say Haghighi should be the first keeper.

They are both good options and are young. Beiranvand has really shown him self in recent times, and Haghighi has performed well for TM and is developing in Europe. I would go with Haghighi for now but Beiranvand also needs to be tested more. Also on Haghighi, it seems that he is exceptional with high shots, good at coming off his line (despite recent red), and his confidence is amazing, however, he is noticeably weaker with low shots than high shots and he needs to work on that .

Haghighi is a good keeper but a terrible penalty record. I am still disappointed that he did not save that penalty from Younus Mahmoud.

Can't go wrong with either one, they're both the best keepers we have had in a long time. It's a real shame to see either one of them on the TM bench as they both deserve to be a starter.

With the exception of the Iraq match, haghighi has been superb for TM since getting the 1st team spot in Brazil so IMO there is no need to replace him, at least not at the moment.

Beiranvand is an extremely talented keeper and I wouldn't mind seeing him start, I just don't see the need ATM. He will make his case stronger and stronger as he progresses though, I think the race will get even tighter in the next year or two.
