Iran vs Egypt will be a game of who is worse
Total shit vs Hot Garbage.
Already see it, Nemati and Noorafkan starting but they get cancelled out by Egyptian keeper who is in worse form than Beiranvand

Brother, you guys are the clear favorites vs Iran. We are the under dogs.Originally posted by kastro View PostI didn't watch or see any highlights yet, so can't comment on the game itself, but looks we had 6 players I'd want starting our first AFCON match. Our attack will go up a level with Trezeguet, Salah, and Marmoush. We're going to be without our best CB for ACFON unfortunately. He tore his ACL last April vs PSG and has yet to come back for Nice, but hoping he gets enough fitness second half of the season in time for the WC.

He doesn't but lately he has been playing more because of our CB injury situation and ever since the manager fell out with Hegazy. I haven't see much of him with the first team but he played well at U20 level.Originally posted by perspolis#1 View Post
Does Hussam AbdelMagid start for Egypt normally?

Watched half an hour of the game.
They won 2-1.
Egypt lineup was 7-8 starters with Marmoush/Salah not starting.
Nigeria was 5-6 starters with Osimhen, Ndidi, Lookman etc not playing.
Egypt is definitely better than the Arab teams we usually play in AFC. They remind me of a technically improved version of Jordan with fast breaks.
The goal they conceded was a freekick and Nigeria reacting to a rebound faster than their defender.
The rightback Hany has decent emergency slide tackles and the GK El Shenaawy is experienced but not the greatest reaction goalkeeper I have ever seen.
Nigeria had some decent success passing in between the lines in the middle sp Taremi playing in that pocket might help a lot.
I did notice Egypts defending on set pieces is very aggressive. Shirt pulling/tugging/hugging etc. Penalty prone in the right setting.
I dont think their style changes with Salah or Marmoush. The second they get the ball, they try to counter with 1-2s because they have a fast front 3. We cannot afford to let them get isolated with Kanaani or Shoja.
I hope our staff paid for an AFCON subscription

We literally only need 1 win to go through as one of the last 3rd place teams. 1 win and 1 tie secure r32, its a joke. The best case scenario is if we end up second place in the group, which would put us against one of USA/Australia/Turkey in r32 which is also doable but we will probably lose that one.Originally posted by perspolis#1 View Post
If it doesnt happen with this group, its not going to happen in our lifetimes.
1-0 win vs New Zealand and we have a high chance to go through

appreciate your passion. But do not get your hopes high at all. This will be a quick 3-game tour for Iran. With maybe a tie against New Zealand. Have you not see the shambles in this team and country.

Regardless the bare minimum I would ask of anyone with any amount of control in Team Melli is for the following things.
1) Plan for each game separately.
One strategy is not going to work on all 3 teams.
For New Zealand we need to be able to move the ball around quickly and make as many chances as possible. So for that game please work on possession play and producing opportunities. They will also need to know how to prevent giving up goals on defensive transitions. Chris Wood is a good striker but he does have age and speed against him. If he doesn't get the ball, NZ will not score.
For Belgium we need to minimize defensive mistakes especially on corners where they can match/outmuscle us. Focus on breaking the game as much as possible and prevent meaningful flow. If someone like Doku gets the ball and it looks like we cant stop them on the run. Alternate fouling to avoid red cards. At this point may have to rely on individual talent to get through. We will need some runners against them at least 2 young players needed in the squad.
For Egypt, we cannot go with the same strategy we have vs NZ. Salah and Marmoosh, talent aside, are better counter attackers than any team we have played in Asia. If we give them too much space and isolate them vs our defenders we will get scored on. If anything a more defensive approach will limit their space and opportunities. That way when we get the ball they might have numbers forward where we can work on splitting their defense which isnt as good as their forwards. Dribblers like Koushki or power attackers like Mohebbi will be the difference. Azmoun just needs to one touch the shots when he gets them.
2) Avoid the political stuff. At this point every Iranian on Earth has taken a stance. Nothing good will come of getting mixed into it. If people sing 'Ey Iran' in the stadium who cares, its a legal song even in Iran now.
3) Get a psychologist to help the players mentally. All the LGBT stuff, visa questions on our players etc. It's all a show to make our time worse in the World Cup. Shut it out. The 'world against us' mentality. Beat New Zealand and get a better GD than Egypt and we are looking at a shot of playing the US on their turf.
Whether you love/hate the US, you can take them on to BEAT them in front of the world. Don't lose that chance to your own heads.

to figure out and make changes to your core, you need to take risks. A coach that has no vision and knows every loss, even in a friendly, could mean him getting fired, will not take risks.Originally posted by Iran_19 View PostThat is true! His records are not worst than Wilmots, i don’t know how someone can even mention Wilmots name lol
regarding Daei, he was very young taking over TM but yeah he didn’t do well either!
overall GN did what he was supposed to in qualification, i dont think anyone can approach anything on this, plus Uzbeks are the most improved team in Asia in last 2-3 years, spent alot in youth level, winning in youth and they see the fruits in senior level!
BUT, any half decent coach would have figured out his D core at least after almost 4 years being in charge!
playing players out of position in NT is ridiculous! It is not club!
Since he is in charge we saw all kind of combination in back 4 yet, and finally… guy like Nemati playing there often!
that is the weakness of the coach! I know Branko played Nosrati as LB but overall is laughable to play someone out of position specially in D at NT level!
bottom line, if he ends up having a better assistants around him instead of bunch of lashkar siah like Ando, Rahman, Alhoei
we may have a shot to get some decent results with him otherwise will be another deja vu!
worst is his argument will be , mage ghablan quality shodim ke alan tavagho dashtid?
It's unfortunate because in this WC, with 48 teams, we finally have a chance of advancing from group stage.

Iran_19 Jan, this is the most sensible thing I’ve read this whole month about Iranian football.Originally posted by Iran_19 View PostThat is true! His records are not worst than Wilmots, i don’t know how someone can even mention Wilmots name lol

I still think some of the player selection issues are related to injuries, but I agree there were better options to test.
For what it’s worth I think our lineup is pretty much set as below unless there are injuries. Only positions with some potential for change are Hardani and Hosseinzadeh.
Beiro
Hardani Shoja M. Hosseini Mimo
Ezatollahi Ghodoos
Hosseinzadeh Mohebbi
Taremi
Azmoun
