This is spot on. CAF has repeatedly done things like this and sent weaker representation to the World Cup. We lost in penalties to Senegal when both of us should have been there. We were marred with injuries to our first 11 otherwise I truly believe we would have beat them over both legs rather than it go the distance to penalties. We literally played them in the AFCON final a couple months before that as well. The Egyptian FA, like many other federations I suspect, are corrupt and full of politics. Sam Morsy, who is the captain of a Premier League club (Ipswich Town) never gets called up even when we have injuries and lesser players are consistently called up ahead of him.

In any case, we’re the most successful African nation with 7 continental titles and we made the finals of the 2017 and 2023 AFCONs.

Well in term of football, beside the individual talents I quoted we had never produced, they have al ahly that won several continental cups and are far from ridiculous when they face the European champions league winner. I wonder when we reached that level.
For national team, they won several africa cup and not 40 years ago.
Fifa ranking means nothing when we spend 4 years playing HK iraq palestine and once either Japan or SK.

About Olympics, there is nothing to be proud. We maximize medals in two (minor) sports and are largely absent in most of others. They outnumbered our participant athletes aswell (148 vs 41)

Handball they are among the best of the world, Squash they are number 1 by far.
Some other sports, they are doing ok while we are very far

Outclassed in what area? They did not qualify for the world cup in 22, they did not won one match in Russia 2018... they did not even won a match in their last africa cup... They are ranked 33 in fifa ranking while Iran is 18... You mean we outclass them.

Iran internal situation and sanctions aren't good but how an overcrowded country, having a revolution and dictatorship recently and a pretty Islamic/conservative population like Egypt outclass us in so many sports?

Football, they have world class players like Salah and Marmoosh we never had. Powerhouse in Handball, Squash, good presence in a lot of other sports where we are completely absent.
Even in sport where we are strong like volleyball weightlifting and wrestling they slightly behind us
