Indonesia went on a run of wins towards the end of last year after an impressive game against Argentina (lost 2-0 to a strong Argentina)
Beating Japan is very unlikely but not impossible....

Apologies to Khodadad Azizi, Mashsaaed, Webmaster and all but I don't think we should play for second place.
My main reasoning is that the chance of beating Japan is higher in the quarter final than the final, based on the stamina of our players. I don't think any of them will have anything left in the tank if we get to the final ..

The best position is actually to tell them to win and WANT Japan. You don't really lose anyone like this. If we lose, we lose, but play your game and see what happens. Also if we lose - good! We get an easier draw.Originally posted by DR Strangemoosh View Post
GN will want to preserve his winning stats though - and also FIFA ranking. Also risk upsetting some of the players if he asks them to throw the game
What would you do in his shoes...? I don't envy him
Remember what Mourinho did when managing Porto in champions league all those years ago? He said WE WANT MAN UNITED before the UCL draw. That made it so the players psychologically felt it was GOOD if it happened. If they ended up not getting Man United, he said it would have been even better, but he had to mentally frame for the players that inviting the challenge, making history, and winning was what their goal was. And guess what? They won on aggregate!
He was a psychologically genius coach and GN should learn from that case study.

It is so ironic that when playing a game against an arab team, we are the ones discussing whether we should saudi the game.
