"footballe hoojome" Oh lord, phrases like these from GN get me worried. The point is not to play attacking or defensive football, the point is to adapt to your opponents and put forward a cohesive gameplan to WIN. Attractive football doesn't always translate to winning.

We know we will do fine against mid tier Asian sides. What matters is when we face serious challengers like Australia, Japan, Saudi and Korea. That is the ultimate test any TM coach needs to prepare for otherwise everything else is pointless.

For GN and CQ, Japan and Korea were their achilles heel. Let's hope GN can rise to the occasion and actually win against these top Asian teams.

This is why we had such high hopes for Sanchez - because he was the only candidate with a tried and trued record of winning against top tier Asian sides with an above average Qatar team.

To win against a Japan, Korea, or Australia in a HIGH stakes game, you need extremely meticulous planning, tactical blueprint, and highly intensive scouting of the other team. Does he have that type of attention to detail, preparedness, and dedication to bring to the table when it matters at that stage? It seems to me like he's an old school type, just lace up the boots and play mentality, when we need something far more modern and detail oriented.

I support him, but jury is still out whether we get any meaningful results.

People are forgetting the early days of Wiltits.
EVen against Bahrain, the match we lost, we had so many attacking chances, but the moment our defense was tested, we crumbled.

With that said, I was expecting much worse than what I saw today.
jury still out. I will give GN 5 matches before judging him.

While more opportunities were created the amount of open space behind our wingers and midfield is huge.

A few times in the half I saw Ezatolahi alone against 2-3 Russians and if those Russians knew what to do running at our back 4 we would be toast. I dont see this as a problem at all in AC group stage but Japan or Saudi would cook us this way

Exactly! This kind of strategy only works against Maldives or Cambodia!

If Russia was the Russia we know, Iran would have been punished for this aimless running!

I don't think he played enough to be properly graded, but this overflow of love is ridiculous.
he was playing super positively rather than passing back constantly (hajsafi, omid) and is exactly what we need for fullback

In the last year they have played Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan in November 2022. You have to go back to November 2021 for any game before that. Their isolation obviously will hurt the team. All the big names like Cheryshev Dzyuba etc have moved on
