Iran Beach Soccer Team Wins Gold At The Asian Beach Games 2014

PersianFootball.com – PHUKET, Iran’s beach soccer team defeated Japan today to win the gold medal in the Asian Beach Games beach soccer tournament by a score of 4-3.

After Iran’s appearance at the Samsung Intercontinental Beach Soccer Cup held in Dubai concluded, the squad flew to Phuket, Thailand to participate in this years Asian Beach Games.

Iran, placed in Group B, faced regional opponents Syria and Oman. The first game against Syria ended in a 9-3 victory for Iran, this was followed by a shocking 5-1 loss to Oman.

Iran still progressed to the quarter-finals where they defeated host nation Thailand 3-1.

The semi-final match saw Iran face the UAE in a gripping match that ended tied at 4-4 after extra time. Iran progressed to the final match after defeating the UAE in penalty shootouts.

The final brought Iran to face Japan in what was an exciting and close fought match that saw Iran clinch the gold medal by a scoreline of 4-3.

This is the second time Iran has clinched the gold medal at the Asian Beach Games as they had also claimed gold in the 2012 edition.
