I guess a transfer window without Iranian player disappointing us with going to qatar from Europe is too much to ask

"in Qatarihaa mano kashf konan va miram onja ye mosht pool dar miyaram" -- what's wrong with earning money?

You mentioned in another comment that we've seen how the UAE and Qatari leagues have developed our players, but the Qatari league has progressed much more rapidly than any of the other ones, even more than IPL. Mehrdad Mohammadi went to a Portuguese team that got relegated and despite that had fantastic performances.

Mohammadi's objective in life isn't to meet your or mine expectations of him, just because we have the same cultural background. When the Iranian currency is so garbage, he has to plan for his and his families future. It takes a fortune to either help emigrate his entire family or help them financially for decades to come in Iran. After all if he's lucky, he can perform well for 3-4 years at a level where someone will pay him a ton of money, then his income will go down drastically. Plus, it's not like they'll pay him his salary to pay crap football, he still has to perform.

My personal wish is for him to go to a good, high-tier, CL or EL competing, European team as well. But I can fully respect (and want him to be in TM) if he plays in QSL and is performing well. No need to degrade a guy for wanting to earn money.

The guy can still use his best football years to play in decent euro league, dont worry qatar will still be after him in 3 or 4 years.

To compare the current status of the Qatar and UAE leagues shows a level of ignorance that shouldn’t be paid attention to. The entire TM of Qatar plays in that league that was just crowned champions of Asia not to mention their teams continuously making runs at ACL titles. UAE is more like KSA and blindly spends money with no plan - Qatar very clearly had plans and in recent years is seeing the fruits of their labor. So again, anyone who chooses not to acknowledge this is not worth responding to.

Of course it would be disappointing to see mehrdad leave Europe after working hard and showing his quality this past season. But we shouldn’t call the guy names and oust him from TM bc he chose Qatar over Europe....many, many before him have done the same. Blame IR and the government for creating a society where ppl are starving and desperate that even “professional” footballers have to figure out how they can make their $ and live comfortably post retirement.

Countries with comparable situation or worse than Iran (africa, south America) don't see so much main players flushing their best years for easy money.
The problem isn't mehrmo, it is this trend. At least half of our national players from 2014 broke their euro spell for easy money

Does anyone realisticly believe that Mehrdad had what it took to climb up the ladder in European competitions? What we saw from him last season is the best you get an d no one is begging for talent of his caliber given his age. Teams are always looking to flip a profit and with Mehrdad right now, you will pay premium and will not flip any profit. He himself knows that as well. Going to Qatar to make easy money at his age is a smart decision. The man has a family, let him take care of them. It's a business at the end of the day.

To say a 26 yr old who just played his first season in Europe has maxed out his potential seems pretty unfair. Pretty much none of us expected him to have this performance in his first year in Portugal so it’s not really out of the realm of possibility for him to continue to surprise and grow as a player..

                          Comment

seriously if you watched him at all this season you would be mightily impressed. Just because some of our players dont shine much in our lousy "league" doesnt mean they cannot be very useful players in EU environment.

his performances vs benfica, guimaraes, etc all showed a very fast direct player with excellent shooting ability who can provide a problem for defenses and really stretch the game. Im very surprised he is going to qatar judging from his interview with misaghi a couple weeks ago where he specifically mentioned the great offers from qatar but said he has no real intention of going there and prefers to continue in europe now. But maybe the money was too good to turn down, especially for a player who probably had some avg iranian wage package at sepahan and nothing before that at rah ahan. And then had half his wage not paid at aves.

Do I think that he could be useful for TM in some situations? Yes. What other player do we have on offensive line who brings his raw speed and direct style. Definitely not as a starter but as a sub who can impact games late on with his speed and directness he is a more useful option to change something in the game than ansarifard, who really floats around and accomplishes little of note but wasting great chance after great chance, and has a similar style to kaveh who I think many would agree has proven in past two seasons he is a better player than karim. Plus mehrdad can be brought on as an effective RW too.

Would he hit the major heights of EU football, no. But doesnt mean he couldnt be a very useful player for EL level team like Guimaraes, midtable french team. God knows they have a ton of garbage that plays for them and nobody bats an eye.

like i said before, for iranian players the biggest motive for taking the difficult EU club career route is to establish yourself as a more legitimate TM Player and enhancing your International player profile..!!
his position for gaining consistent enough playing minutes in the already crowded attacking line of current TM roster was Weak @ best...! especially comparing him to other far more formidable candidates who were also already applying their trade in even more competitive EU club setting and performing even more admirably than him ...!!

so when the big money from gutter come calling, it was'nt all that hard, nor per say far more $en$ibel decision to make ...!!
in all honesty i probably woulda done the same if i were him
