{"id":40364,"date":"2020-09-15T14:10:06","date_gmt":"2020-09-15T21:10:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.persianfootball.com\/news\/?p=40364"},"modified":"2020-09-15T14:10:06","modified_gmt":"2020-09-15T21:10:06","slug":"ffiri-afc-champions-league-tv-deal-ended-due-to-international-sanctions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.persianfootball.com\/news\/2020\/09\/15\/ffiri-afc-champions-league-tv-deal-ended-due-to-international-sanctions\/","title":{"rendered":"FFIRI: AFC Champions League TV deal ended due to international sanctions"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Sports Business &#8211; TEHRAN, <strong>The Football Federation Islamic Republic of Iran (FFIRI) has said that an AFC Champions League broadcast deal in the country has been terminated by the Asian Football Confederation due to \u201cinternational sanctions\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An announcement came ahead of the resumption of the 2020 AFC Champions League yesterday (Monday) following a six-month hiatus caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. The tournament\u2019s West Zone matches are being played in Qatar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), the state-controlled broadcaster in Iran, is the incumbent rights-holder in the country but the FFIRI said that its agreement has been cancelled and the broadcast signal withheld.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The FFIRI said that it \u201cproperly and accordingly expects the AFC to have the necessary platform for live broadcasting of the matches by IRIB\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Four Iranian clubs are taking part in the AFC Champions League, namely Esteghlal, Persepolis, Sepahan and Shahr Khodro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Iran is&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportbusiness.com\/news\/qatar-and-saudi-face-off-again-in-race-to-host-2027-afc-asian-cup\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">one of five bidders<\/a>&nbsp;to host the AFC\u2019s Asian Cup in 2027. Saudi Arabia, Qatar, India and Uzbekistan are the other countries to have submitted their formal candidature to host the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In June, the AFC&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportbusiness.com\/news\/afc-launches-territory-by-territory-tv-rights-sales-in-10-mena-countries\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">initiated a territory-by-territory broadcast rights sales process<\/a>&nbsp;in 10 countries across the Middle East. The Request for Proposals for the forthcoming rights cycle covers Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Palestine, Oman, Qatar, Syria and Yemen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Separate rights sales processes are being conducted in each territory. The rights sales processes in Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates are already underway and a separate process is to be undertaken in Iran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hong Kong-based Football Marketing Asia is the exclusive commercial agency of the AFC for the 2021-24 and 2025-28 and rights cycles.
