The Scottish Sun – TEHRAN, ANTHONY STOKES is on the way back to Iran after agreeing to a deal with Persepolis, according to reports<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The former\u00a0Celtic\u00a0and Hibs man has previously played in the top-flight with Tractor Sazi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And\u00a0Mehr News Agency\u00a0reports that the striker has penned an initial six-month deal with the league leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s believed the contract can be extended at the end of the current campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Persepolis currently sit top of the table and have won the title in the past three seasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They lead Sepahan by three points after 16 games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stokes’ former side Tractor sit one point further back in third off spot with the duo set to go head-to-head on Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 31-year-old started the season in Turkey with Adana Demirsport but\u00a0he left in November after having his two-year contract cancelled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He’s also had spells in England and Greece during his career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, ex-Celtic star\u00a0Charlie Nicholas has taken aim at Leigh Griffiths over his celebration\u00a0in the Scottish Cup at the weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hoops striker bagged his first goal since August in the 2-1 win over Partick Thistle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
