Tehran Times – TEHRAN, Qatar football team, headed by Felix Sanchez, lifted the AFC Asian Cup for the first time in their history, and the triumph was a far cry from everyone\u2019s expectation. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Qataris won the title after scoring 19\n goals and conceding just one, and it showed that they were not just the\n best attacking team, but a team with best defensive style.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the question is how a small country like Qatar blossoms so much in football?  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The answer is clear, a cohesive program. And it\u2019s time for the Iranian football officials to learn from their small neighbors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Undoubtedly, Qatar is faced with a big \nproblem for finding native footballers. For instance, their newest \nnational hero Almoez Ali was not born in Qatar, but it was not an issue \nfor them. On the contrary, Iran has the advantage of having million \ntalented players but there is no a systematic program for grassroot \nfootball.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Iran must restructure the country\u2019s \nfootball and the federation should take grassroot football into \nconsideration as Qatar did and won.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Iranian federation should also hire a \ncoach with a very precise job description, because Quieroz, who was not \nassigned a blueprint of his duties from day one, went beyond his \nauthority to lead his team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Portuguese instructor, the longest \nserving Iran coach, had to concentrate on his job ahead of the 2019 AFC \nAsian Cup, but he preferred to publish provocative statements on his \nInstagram account against an Iranian football club and his critics. \nQueiroz called his critics \u201ccrocodile.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sanchez is not worried about the prospect \nof losing his job in spite of the fact that the Qataris are going to \nsign a new head coach for the 2022 World Cup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, Queiroz seemed to be apprehensive\n about losing his job after he found out that Persepolis coach Branko \nIvankovic could be his potential replacement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sanchez concentrated on his job and made \nthe Qatar football proud. Now it is time for him to reap the fruit of \nlabor, for what he has done with a small country among the Asian giants.\n The Qatari team beat Asian powerhouses Saudi Arabia, Iraq, South Korea,\n the UAE and Japan which made their championship more valuable. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Iran must change several players for the upcoming tournament, a decision that should\u2019ve been made by ongoing coach Queiroz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The next Team Melli coach would have to \ncompete against time as he needs more of it to rebuild a new team. This \nis while the core of Qatar football team is still very young and this \nteam can compete with the best teams at the 2022 World Cup.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
