He is probably one of the best coaches in football history.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lippi steered his native Italy to World Cup glory in 2006 but won just 12 of 31 games since taking charge of China\u2019s national team in October 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite a truly abject performance against Iran \u2013 and the embarrassing gulf in class \u2013 Queiroz compared Lippi to former Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson, in terms of the Italian\u2019s impact on football.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cChina made a great evolution under Lippi,\u201d said the former Real Madrid coach, who twice had spells as Ferguson\u2019s assistant manager at Old Trafford.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe players are better prepared, better organised. It\u2019s a pity Mr Lippi won\u2019t continue with the Chinese but of course that\u2019s his decision,\u201d added Queiroz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThese great coaches can only bring improvement \u2013 giant coaches like (Fabio) Capello, Lippi, Alex Ferguson, built the game in the last 20 years.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lippi refused to take questions after China\u2019s capitulation against Iran, but was visibly upset at the manner of his team\u2019s defeat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou can\u2019t gift a team as dangerous as Iran three goals,\u201d he growled, giving no indication of his future plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou just can\u2019t legislate for that kind of thing. I really wish it didn\u2019t have to end on such a gloomy note.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lippi\u2019s departure leaves 76th-ranked China hunting for a new coach, but football\u2019s sleeping giants \u2013 who have qualified for the World Cup just once, in 2002 \u2013 appear to favour foreign know-how.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Veteran Dutch coach Guus Hiddink, who famously led South Korea to the World Cup semi-finals in 2002, took charge of China\u2019s under-21 side last year as they target success at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lippi, meanwhile, claimed his tenure in China, where he was reportedly one of the world\u2019s highest-paid coaches, had indeed been a successful one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMy contract is over but it has been a huge honour to coach the national team of such a big country as China,\u201d said the former Juventus, Napoli and Inter Milan boss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI tried my best to help the team improve and I think in a large part I succeeded.
