It's been a long, long time -- and time for a new analysis.

This World Cup had lots of positives and lots of question marks. Positives first:

We finally have a big time player. Ramin Rezaeian showed up in every match, both in the last WC and in this one. Always shows up for all the big games. I'm extremely impressed.

A bit late, but Saman finally impressed for TM. I only found out recently he's had 70 games for TM. Where did the time go?

Players finally, finally, either learnt their lesson or were told to say things like "we're here to make all Iranians happy despite which flag or ideology they support." What a blessing after the disaster class they put up last time around.

Beiranvand's antics, despite making me panic quite a few times cause he was so calm on the ball, helped us a ton. Incredible saves.

The players who've played multiple world cups clearly showed their experience. For once, we benefited from this.

Our low blocks were executed well. When we did play in the final third, we were fantastic in the final third. Unfortunately we didn't make it to the final third that often.

I'm convinced we could've beaten Switzerland had we advanced, we've gotten great at defending, even though we really panic in the first 10 minutes of the game and can't get our head into it.

Negatives:

It was entirely on us. We could've advanced easily.

No Sayyadmanesh, Hosseinnejad, Taheri, Azmoun ... though I don't care for Azmoun but w/e. We could've really brought a bench that could've gained from the experience.

IFF and IRI antics aside, on a technical level we are clearly lacking, and that too is all on us. I'm suprisingly glad we took an Iranian coach to WC, I hope we continue that trend.

Our players still can't string together more than two passes, they panic way too quickly, and are not used to being pressed. We still overly rely on individual talent instead of team play. We defend as a team, attack as individuals.

Our team is definitely aged out. I'm not sure what the value is of taking this team to AC. We need to plan for once but ... who knows.

Despite their age a lot of our players lack good football experience. You can kinda tell that half the team hasn't had a professional football education, or don't play in teams where tactics and individual development are important. It's a shame.

Any notion of any kind of long term planning. No surprises there.

FIFA's corruption and politics are a disaster. No lion and sun flag is a sham, and none of the cameras showed any of the fans. Psychotic to the core. On the other side of the same thing, what's the deal with punishing the players. If you let them into the tournament, at least let them play normally, make sure they get normal visas.

There's been a clear positive trend since 2014, and even though I'm not a fan of GN at least for once we figured out how to attack, even though it was too little too late in every game. I hope we stick to getting more Iranian coaches, even though the good ones refuse to coach the team because of all the nonsense around the team and all the issues. In particular, I was reminded a lot of Nigeria and Bosnia in 2014, and the USA in 2022. We didn't know how to attack for the longest time, but we're finally starting to learn. I hope that we properly introduce a new set of players and integrate them into the team, in a way that gets the current players to pass their experience to the next generation. I'm sure having Rahman Rezaei and Ando in the coaching squad helped, and I hope we continue this trend properly.

Admittedly I'm bitter about Jahanbakhsh's antics during and after 2022, but some of them seem really out of touch with the day to day lives of people in Iran. I'm happy they behaved a bit better this time, whether they allowed them to or the players matured a bit.

Hello, my Iranian brothers,
I just wanted to thank you for all the years I spent here on this forum. It has been a pleasure getting to know many of you, and some of you have even become my friends for the past 10 years.

I have always tried to be a balanced supporter, praising when deserved and criticizing when necessary. But this time, I have nothing negative to say about the players. Three goals were disallowed by VAR one in each match. Not a single decision from the so-called artificial intelligence seemed to go in Iran's favor. The players showed great quality, and I truly believe Iran has become one of the best national teams in the world at set pieces. I am disappointed, but that is football. However, yesterday's fixed game was an absolute disgrace.

I am writing this message to say goodbye (for now). Today, I was insulted by some Iranians simply because I said on social media I wanted the national team to qualify. So I think it is better for me to continue watching the matches away from certain people and environments.

I understand the political situation. But this regime has been there since the day I was born, and it is still there today. When I decided to support Iran, this regime was already in power. I fell in love first with Iranian football, then with the players, the culture, the music, and the country itself. I loved visiting Iran, which is why I have been there five times. But at the moment, this forum has become more about politics than football. Maybe one day I will return, when emotions have calmed down.

Even so, I sincerely wish the very best to all of you.

Thank you so much for all the kindness and love I received here.

A big hug from your Portuguese brother,

Tadeu Martins

See you one day 🤍

I see a lot of "We are cursed", "they're against us" .... which make no sense whatsoever.
I also see realistic views pointing to our own failings & missteps that the ppl who run the football keep ignoring year after year. Which means we keep making the same mistakes, same failings, same shortcomings come up again and again.

We are NOT cursed more than any other team.
WE did/do it to ourselves. And yes, it's political. Bcoz WE (country of Iran, including the regime) bring politics into everything. Living under this regime that turns the most mundane issues into political points or an opportunity to push their depraved outlook.
Lets see what this “curse” is and who “cursed” us.

Who deliberately weakened the team by excluding some effective players like Azmoun, Sayadmanesh, …?

Who raised the average age of the team to 32?

Who is responsible for Iran being treated like a pariah? Where we couldn’t get a single half-decent team to play us in test games? When every other nation could.

Who is responsible for canceling of tours, camps, travel plans, …? When it never happened to any other nation.

Who is responsible for the US adopting such stringent restrictions on visa, camps, game-day, … ? why didn’t they do this to the of the 47 teams?

Whose fault is it that we couldn’t beat the WEAKEST team in the group and perhaps one of the weakest teams in the entire WC?

Whose fault was it that we didn’t convert an easy penalty? A weak slow shot, close to the keeper.

----------

At the same time I do detect some peculiar things happen that may feed those who want to bring supernatural into things.

3 goal post/bar hits

Two VAR calls of your arse 3 inches off and your toe by 2 inches

Even the corner flag (Austria game) didn’t want us to advance as it kept the ball in.

While on the last matchday we had 96% chance of going through, that 4% won!

Blame whoever and whatever you want. But you cant ignore all the fault of our own. I may feel bad for the country of Iran for not registering a WC advance record. But I also am happy the regime will not get another opportunity to turn this into “a win for Islamic regime, Islam, axis of resistance (Mehvar-e moghavemat), ,, or whatever garbage sh*t they always do). Don’t like to face this fact? Sue me.

The team also have a lot to be blamed for. They could have placed their own people & nation above else. The players had NO PLACE amongst the people of Iran. Even when the ppl put aside their grievances aside and cheered their goal, the players still didn’t connect wt the ppl, nor even tried (How many of players appeared in regime orchestrated street circus, proudly expressed their love for regime & Rahbar, wanted to dedicate any success to their leader, … ).

Nothing captures the concept of KARMA than Shoja scoring a goal, acting like an idiot, getting his goal ruled offside, becoming a meme internationally ... when he has been one of the most vocal supporters of the regime wt all his rants.
THAT is Karma.

Worst was when they said “those are all INTERNAL issues and no need to talk about them”, referring to slaughter of more than 40,000 innocent Iranians. The more they distanced themselves from the population, the more likely the jubilation in their failure.

No. You reap what you sow. Now shut up and cope.

Guys we were robbed plain and simple. Whether it was yesterday vs Egypt with their ridiculous 4 min decision to call an offside where they most likely manipulated the line or tonight when after Algeria's 3rd goal at the 93rd with 4 minutes of injury time, they somehow added 3 extra minutes of injury time to help Austria score, even though the Algerian celebration took less than a minute.

They wanted Iran out so badly. They wanted Iran humiliated. They forbade Teammelli to stay on US soil, they forbade them to arrive to the host city 48h in advance for the first two games, they kicked out team out back to Mexico right after matches.

They didn't allow lots of the staff in the US.

But regardless, our team played with integrity and fought hard to make us all proud

I got back from LA recently, got to go to both of the matches there.

But before that I have to firstly say, what Ramin has done over the last 3 games has to be the best individual performance of an Iranian player in any tournament. 36 years old, he wasn’t supposed to be here. I’m still sad about what he did going to Esteghlal but he was always one of my favorite players, now as the leading goal scorer it’s crazy. His corner kick crosses, versatility, calmness, heart and offensive threat is absolutely nuts. During the New Zealand game I think he made that run that led to the goal at least 30 times.

The LA experience was super good overall. The vibe in the stadium was amazing and the games were super fun, but obviously still very politically charged. Every corner there were Iranians fighting and swearing at each other. It felt like no matter what you did, said, didn’t say, wore, you’d get verbally attacked. On my way to the stadium people would come up to you with cameras in your face and would without any reason accuse you of which side you’re on. I got blocked off while exiting the game with a woman swearing at me and my entire family while I literally was walking quietly, not interacting or engaging with her. Outside of the stadiums it was non stop fights. The people there with zero conflict were the Mexicans lol. Those guys were just simply there having a blast.

But inside the stadium I have to say it felt like it was a home game. The three offside goals in each of the 3 games have been so tough accept, especially today against Egypt. I guess I learned something new about the offside rule after all these years, but even still, the Egyptian players foot closest to Shoja still looks like it’s behind him keeping him on to me.

I am happy after my whole life supporting team Melli I was able to go to a World Cup game. I feel like some of these players are truly giving everything they have to make us happy during difficult times. I support everyone to make their own decisions, those who didn’t watch the games, and those who like me saved their money and spent a lot to support the team in person when they could. I hope we make it to the next round and we for once see Iran play more than 3 games in the World Cup.
