{"id":11140,"date":"2010-04-10T23:41:39","date_gmt":"2010-04-11T06:41:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.persianfootball.com\/news\/2010\/04\/10\/fifa-we-had-to-eliminate-iran-girls-football-team\/"},"modified":"2010-04-10T23:41:39","modified_gmt":"2010-04-11T06:41:39","slug":"fifa-we-had-to-eliminate-iran-girls-football-team","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.persianfootball.com\/news\/2010\/04\/10\/fifa-we-had-to-eliminate-iran-girls-football-team\/","title":{"rendered":"FIFA: We had to eliminate Iran girls\u2019 football team"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: left;\">MNA &#8211; <strong>FIFA stated in a letter to Iran Football Federation (IFF) that they had no choice but<\/strong><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.tehrantimes.com\/News\/10282\/13_WOMEN.jpg\" width=\"400\" style=\"float: right;\" \/><strong> to disallow Iran girls\u2019 football team from participating in the 2010 Asian Youth Olympic Games.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>FIFA banned the team because prevailing rules prevented players from wearing an Islamic headscarf.<\/p>\n<p>The Asian Football Confederation said in a statement on Monday, \u201cFIFA decided that wearing hijab (Islamic covering) is not in accordance with game regulations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>FIFA General Secretary Jerome Valcke stated in a letter to the Iran Football Federation, \u201cTaking into consideration the clear position stated by (the Olympic committee of) Iran, the FIFA executive committee had no choice other than to decide that Iran will not be able to participate.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>FIFA\u2019s international rulebook contains a section on players\u2019 onfield equipment and attire.
