Karimi: I would rather wait till the World Cup

By Salar Vafaian

PFDC - TEHRAN, The heat of the World Cup qualifications has definitely affected Ali Karimi and he can’t wait till the start of Iran’s knockout games. Iran’s qualification can turn the magician a star not just in the east, but throughout the globe.

There are some good news, it seems like you have offers from Spanish clubs again?

Well there are a lot of offers but for now I can’t confirm anything, I have to concentrate in Al-Ahli and Dubai.

Reports suggest that Deportivo La Coruna’s offer is $ 5 million, is this true?

Why don’t you just say 10 million! Clubs like them don’t even pay their top stars 5 million! These rumours are even surprising for me!

You had told us before that you like the Spanish league, today a big Spanish newspaper reported that a Spanish club wanted you, are you going to make any decisions?

For time being I am not thinking of anything. We have lost a few games in the league and I have stopped thinking of transferring for time-being. Everything depends on the club and there is no way that Al-Ahli officials would let me go until the end of my current contract. I can start talks with clubs up to six months before that, but no deals can get finalised. Personally I prefer to wait a while. If Iran qualifies for the World Cup, things will completely change for me. You should know that things like this don’t matter for me but now that Deportivo have officially shown interest in me, after the World Cup, many more teams would want me. The whole world watches the World Cup games, and it’s because of that, that I am not in a rush for any transfer.

You are for sure not playing against Bosnia, correct?

I can’t make it. Two days before the Bahrain match, Al-Ahli has an important game. I realised if I play against Bosnia, I would have to play three games in a week and that’s a tough physical challenge for me. I want to be fully match fit for the Bahrain game.

Zandi is a new player who’s been added to the team; do you have anything to say about this?

I wish him all the best. At this time, everyone should do their best for the team including Zandi. I haven’t watched him play but when Branko talks about his qualities, he must be something special; surely a fixed player in the Bundesliga must be of high quality. Zandi will become successful but only if ‘some ‘people let that happen.

Al-Ahli is not doing too well, it seems like the team is used to getting good scores once every other game?

That seems to be the case, another problem is the fact that our manager has just been replaced and it takes time for the new one to affect the results and get used to the team.

Are you happy with your new manager?

God must be happy, I am just a player and my duty is to obey him, he is not too different to our old manager.

In one of his interviews, he had said: ‘’ with the presence of Ali Karimi, Al-Ahli will become champions ‘’

That was very kind of him but no team can be based upon one player.

How about being the Al-Ahli captain?

I have no news about that, the two times I was captain, we lost the games. We all walk on a hazardous road. My bag is always packed in case they sack me, if you don’t believe me, you can come to my house and see this!
