No major moves in February ranking





F.A. - ZURICH, There were no major movements among Asian teams in February’s FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking with Japan remaining the continent’s top-ranked side, ahead of Iran and Korea Republic.

Japan moved up a spot in the World Ranking to 18th after posting three victories. The Asian Cup holders trounced Kazakhstan 4-0 and Syria 3-0 in friendly matches before edging DPR Korea 2-1 in a World Cup 2006 Qualifier on February 9 to retain their position as Asia’s best side.

Iran remained second in Asia and 20th in the world after beating Bosnia-Herzegovina 2-1 in a friendly and drawing 0-0 with Bahrain in a World Cup qualifier, while Korea Republic are just one place behind in both rankings after their 2-0 World Cup qualification victory over Kuwait.

Saudi Arabia stay fourth in Asia after being held 1-1 by Asia’s seventh-ranked side Uzbekistan in a World Cup qualifier.

The most significant movers for February were Korea DPR and Turkmenistan. The North Koreans went up two spots in the World Ranking to 95th after their narrow loss to Japan while Turkmenistan played two friendlies with Saudi Arabia, winning one game 2-1 and losing the other match 1-0.
