PFDC - UAE, In the past few years,
Farhad Majidi’s status in the National Team had various ups and downs. Majidi did not take part in the Asian Cup in China last summer, but he has now been re-selected by Iran's national team coach Branko Ivankovic to prove himself on international level. Below comes a translation of an interview with the Iranian goalgetter, taken from Iran Varzeshi newspaper.
Branko has called you up again, when will you go to Tehran to take part in the training? On Monday, I have a game in dubai against Al-Shabab, after that I will fly to Tehran to take part in the National Team camp.
There is a tough challenge for your position in the National Team, you think you have a chance?I am very fit right now, Begovic
(Coach of Al Wasl) trains with me for two hours a day in private and this time I really hope to be of more use to the National Team.
What is your opinion about Zandi being called up for the Team?
I have never seen hin play, however someone who is a starter in the Bundesliga must be up high calibre.
How confident are you about Iran’s qualification for the World Cup?Our team has very valuable players, unless something strange happens or something goes very wrong, I am sure that Iran will appear in the 2006 World Cup. I will try my best to help out but it’s always up to coach who will play.
You wanted to leave Al-Wasl and move to Borussia Mochedgladbach, was that true or not?Al-Wasl received their offer and I tried really hard to go to Germany, however Al-Wasl officials rejected the offer and said they need me for the games In Dubai since our team is not doing too well this season. Personally I’m tired of playing in the UAE league and I want to move to Europe. I promise you that next season I wont be in Al-Wasl no longer and will be in a European League.
