Stevie-Online - After the 0-3 in Munich Hamburg's coach Thomas Doll changed the team on four positions. For Brecko, Jarolim, Trochowski and Takahara the players Schlicke, Moreira, Beinlich and
Mehdi Mahdavikia started. It was the first time the iranian international Mahdavikia was nominated for the first team since Doll became HSV's head coach.
And Mehdi Mahdavikia played good. The first 20 minutes it seemed, that the offensive player wanted to show coach and fans, that it was a great mistake not to plan with him.
The first goal for Hamburg came after a long ball down the field found Emile Mpenza, who then laid the ball off to Barbarez to fire home from just 22 yards out.
In the 40th minute a free-kick from Antonio da Silva connected with Auer in the box, who took advantage of poor marking from Bastian Reinhardt and goalkeeper Martin Pieckenhagen to head from four yards out to put Mainz back in the frame.
Shortly before the interval the home side came close to adding their second when Barbarez played a low ball into the box, which was misjudged by defender Christoph Teinert, allowing Mpenza to latch onto the ball only to fire his effort wide from 10 yards out.
After the break Barbarez then put his shot wide of the target when substitute Naohiro Takahara headed the ball down for the Bosnian.
But Lauth soon made amends as he grabbed the winner for Hamburg in the 80th minute. The striker struck from 20 yards as 'keeper Dimo Wache failed to take control of the ball as it slipped through his fingers.
Next weekend David Jarolim will be back after his 5th booking - who'll play then? He or Mahdavikia?
