Iran's DEAFLYMPIC football team bag silver medal (updated)

by Kamran Delan

PFDC - Melbourne, The Iranian deaflympic football team who had a strong showing in this tournament, failed to finnish the job by falling 1-2 to the English team in the final game of this year's 2005 Deaflympics games in Melbourne Australia.

It was reported that Iran and England were tied at 1-1 after 92 minutes of play, Iran being a man down for almost half of the match, a questionable free kick was given to the English side by the lineman claiming that the Iranian keeper had touched the ball outside the box. The English then capitalized through the awarded freekick to win the match and the tornamnet at 2-1.

Iran had earlier managed to tie the Czech Republic and Germans including a walk over Saudi Arabians with 5-0 then went on crushing the Netherlands in the quarter-finals with an interesting 4-0 result and later in the semis they edge the tough Irish team 3-2 to come to the final.

Iran took silver after England wining the gold and Germany took bronze defeating the Irish 2-0. below you can find more detailed stats about the final of the 2005 DEAFLYMPIC football game:
