Samereh scores hattrick, Majidi strikes once

F.A - ABU DHABI, Al Wahda and Al Ain bounced back from defeats in the previous round of the Emirates league to post victories over Al Shabab and Al Ahli respectively in the 15th round of the season.

Al Wahda held on to their single-point lead at the top of the table with a resounding 3-1 away victory while Al Ain stayed three points behind in third spot after a hard-fought 2-0 home triumph.

Al Jazira also earned full points from their 3-1 away win against Al Dhafra to hold on to second spot and Al Nasr overcame Sharjah 2-1 at home to move into fourth place.

Darko Metrovic and Basheer Saeed gave Al Wahda a 2-0 lead at half time en route to the visitor’s 3-1 triumph.

Ismail Matar added a third before Brazilian Rodrigo pulled one back for the home side, who failed to push their advantage after Al Wahda were reduced to 10 men in the 63rd minute.

Adilson struck twice in the second half to steer Al Ain out of trouble after Salem Khamis squandered a spot kick for Al Ahli early in the first half.

The Brazilian striker beat the offside trap to put his side ahead on the hour mark and 11 minutes later latched on to a left cross from Abdulla Ali to seal victory for the defending champions.

Al Jazira secured full points following second half goals against Al Dhafra from the league’s top scorer Mohammed Salem Al Enazi and Saleh Obaid powered them to victory after the game had been tied 1-1 at half time.

‘Morito’ Norberto Mulanessa drew first blood in the eighth minute but Nigerian Robert Akouri leveled the score six minutes later.

Al Dhafra were in the game until the last minute of regulation time and threatened the visitors whenever Akouri and Brazilian Romeo Campo moved into Al Jazira territory.

Campo was twice denied late in the match as Saeed Juma made a spectacular save on a header from the Brazilian in front of the goal and blocked a close range shot six minutes later.

Yousef Abdul Aziz was off target on an open goal in the 77th minute and his woes was compounded 10 minutes later when his shot off space created by Enazi crashed against the far post.

The Brazilian duo Nelson and Valder scored in either half to clinch victory for them against Sharjah.

In other matches, Dubai Club held Al Wasl 1-1. Ali Hassan headed a free kick taken from the left flank to give Dubai the lead and Iranian Farhad Majidi scored a similar goal for the equalizer, both in the first half.

Al Shaab struck two late goals to pull off a 3-1 win over Al Khaleej (Note by PFDC: Iranian striker Ali Samereh scoring all three goals for Al Shaab) and Emirates posted a 4-2 away win over Al Ittihad.
