Vital Forest – NOTTINGHAMSHIRE, Martin O’Neill recalled Karim Ansarifard to the Nottingham Forest first-team on Saturday and was rewarded for introducing him from the bench against Hull City.

The 28-year-old came on in the 58thminute at the City Ground and got himself on the scoresheet less than a quarter-of-an-hour later.

It was his first goal since joining Forest on a free transfer in November 2018. Ansarifard was also making his first appearance for the Reds since he came off the bench against Brentford on February 9. He’s only made two appearances since December 2018 and fell further down the pecking order after Leo Bonatini’s arrival.

O’Neill, however, has watched the Iran international playing for the u23s and must have been impressed enough to bring him back into the senior squad. And with Ansarifard scoring on his return, he should remain in the 18 against Aston Villa on Wednesday.

The former Olympiacos striker has scored and created two goals in nine appearances in all competitions. With Lewis Grabban, Daryl Murphy and Leo Bonatini all vying for a spot up front, Ansarifard’s chances of playing appeared slim.

His hard work has been recognised, however, and now he’s finally bagged his first goal in the process.
