Tehran Times – ZURICH, FIFA President Gianni Infantino extends his deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Iranian football player Iraj Danaeifard who passed away last week.

Danaeifard died of a cardiac arrest in Shiraz’s Namazi Hospital at the age of 67.

“I wish to extend my deepest sympathy to Danaeifard’s family and Iranian football fans. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family,” said Infantino in a letter to Iran Football Federation President Mehdi Taj.

Danaeifard was the scorer of the first official goal for Iran national football team in the FIFA World Cup.

He scored against Scotland at the 1978 World Cup.

Danaeifard equalized the match in the second half and secured Iran’s first ever World Cup point, and their last for 20 years till a famous win over the United States.
