Tehran Times – TEHRAN, Former FC Koln and Fulham midfielder Adil Chihi has signed a contract with Iranian football club Esteghlal on Saturday.

Chihi, who was a trial at Esteghlal training for a couple of days, has caught the eye of team coach Parviz Mazloumi and will play as the successor of Karrar Jassim at the heart of Esteghlal’s midfield.

“It is an honor for me to play for Esteghlal as it is one of the most popular clubs in Iran and even in Asia. Esteghlal has a lot of fans and I will try my best to make them happy,” Chihi told reporters.

“I know Iranian players who played in Bundesliga like (Ashkan) Dejagah, (Ali) Karimi, (Vahid) Hashemian, (Mehdi) Mahdavikia and (Ali) Daei,” Chihi added.

Born in Germany, the 28-year old represented Morocco at international level. He has played most of his career for Koln as he scored 20 goals in 130 appearances for the Billy Goats during the nine years spell at the club between 2005 to 2014.

Chihi joined English side Fulham on a free transfer to play in the Championship in the summer of 2014 but he has a misery there as he played just one game during a whole season.
