Tehran Times – TEHRAN, Head of the Iranian Football Federation (IFF) Ali Kaffashian said that Carlos Queiroz will extend his contract on Thursday.

Queiroz’s contract expired after the 2014 FIFA World Cup but the Iranian federation has shown interest to keep the Portuguese coach until the 2015 AFC Asian Cup.

“The contract will be finalized on Thursday,” Kaffashian said.

Queiroz is reportedly also a potential candidate for the vacant South Africa coaching job.

Iran started its campaign in Group F of the World Cup with a draw against Nigeria. The team lost to Argentina 1-0 in stoppage time in its second match. Carlos Queiroz’s men were not strong enough to defeat already-eliminated Bosnia and Herzegovina in their last match. Iran lost 3-1 to the World Cup debutant.

After the end of the tournament, Queiroz stepped down as his post, saying he has not received any single concrete or attractive proposal to stay on but the Iranian federation announced it has reached an agreement with him.

Iran will have to prepare itself for the 2015 AFC Asian Cup, which will be held in Australia from January 9 to 31, 2015.
