TEHRAN TIMES – TEHRAN, Arash Borhani struck a brace against Mes to help Esteghlal to stay top of the Iranian Professional League (IPL) table.
On Monday, Esteghlal beat Mes 2-1 in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium.
Arash Borhani gave Esteghlal a lead with a powerful shot in the 24th minute.
Mes’s newly-appointed coach Luka Bonacic made some changes in the second half. Mostafa Shojaei from the visiting team found the back of the net in the 56th minute but one minute later Borhani scored again.
“I am fully satisfied with my team’s performance. We played very well against Mes and I am so happy due to this victory,” Esteghlal coach Amir Ghalenoei said in the post-match news conference.
“We had a good knowledge of Mes. We had collected seven points from four matches in the first half of the season but at the start of the second half of the season we’ve earned 10 points from our four matches,” he added.
Esteghlal is at the top of the table with 41 points, followed by Traktorsazi with 38 points and Foolad with 37 points.
