PFDC - TEHRAN, After failing to line up any friendly matches on the two FIFA matchdays in October, Iran have now announced their second test match for November.Team Melli, who will welcome Iceland on November 10 and then also host an Asian Cup qualifier against Jordan four days later, have postponed the the return leg in Amman from November 18 to November 22 and invited Macedonia for a friendly match on November 18 instead.
However, only two of the four games within the twelve-days period will be held on official FIFA matchdays.
The Iceland game is outside the FIFA schedule and both sides will have to rely on domestic players, so stars like Eidur Gudjohnsen or Gretar Steinsson will not travel to Iran's capital.
While all international players should be availble for the two following matches, Team Melli boss Afshin Ghotbi will again have to do without his European and UAE based players for the final game, the Asian Cup qualifier in Amman. It is yet unclear if Macedonia will bring their strongest squad including superstar Goran Pandev or will bring a B-team like in 2005 when they, however, surprisingly defeated Iran's A team 2-1 in a friendly in Tehran, is unclear yet. It is likely Macedonia will use their best players this time though. Macedonia will host Canada four days prior to playing in Tehran. |
