After watching the SS-Ahvaz vs Persepolis, I was amazed at the level of talent available in Iran that are either not credited enough by the media, are left outside the sphere of coverage or are plainly under-estimated & under-rated.
SS-A is brimming with talent at the moment, especially in players with offensive attitude.
Although they may have conceded many goals, but when it comes to offensive game, they are the unchallenged KINGS of Iranian football. Even when you take out their most prolific scorer, Meydavoodi, they continue as if nothing has happened and it’s business as usual. They resume scoring goal after goal with other replacement players.
And this points to one very crucial factor:
having a great YOUTH or Omid team that constantly supplies needed players for the main team.
At the moment very few teams in Iran can boast about this. Sepahan and Zob-ahan and perhaps Saipa & Malavan are the other ones.
It’s just ridiculous to see the two most popular teams in Iran, who could enjoy the luxury of admitting ANY youngster in the whole of Iran to their Omid teams, are so poor and beggarly in this aspect. And they have only themselves to blame. Ignoring youth development and PURELY relying on buying “
hired guns” will never have any sustainable effect on the team. But this has been said many times with no heed.
------------------
Back to SS-A. I was especially observant of their offensive game ( not only becoz I love an offensive team, but also becoz TM is having difficulties in the area , recently ) and boy, they cover all gamut in the offensive strategies.
They employ shooters, wingers who play very good wide plays and crosses, technical and skillful ball players, pace, off-side tactics, … everything. They use everything possible to reach their goal.
And that is something we have to emulate at TM. We cannot say we’re gonna attack from the middle and stick to it no matter what. Something that we’ve been doing for sometime now ! we MUST explore as many options as possible and SS-A has shown it works.
------------------
The second thing SS-A teaches our TM is the formation.
In fact today, we saw the most popular teams in Iran using the 4-2-3-1 formation and conceding 4 goals each … to relative unknowns or under-rated players !
SS-A adopted a 4-3-3 formation ( more like 4-3-2-1 ) which offensively was far more balanced and well spread which helped them immensely.
Here, let me interject & repeat my belief that
“A good offense is the best defense”.
SS-A knowing their defensive fallibilities and weaknesses, relied and bolstered their offense which takes away the luxury of time and space from the opponents’ defenders and def-mids to join in attack freely. And that means less pressure on your suspect defenders.
We saw although they were ahead by 2 and even 3 goals, they continued to attack and play their offensive game, albeit the more emphasis on fast counter-attacks and possessional tactics. Jalali has had a great say in such success too.
-------------------
SS-A also boast of one of the few teams in IPL with above average and good
TEAMWORK. Another feather in their cap.
Much kudos to Jalali and his excellent job so far.
--------------------
I wonder why the team with BEST offensive game and players in the league had absolutely NO player in TM in its past 2 WCQ’s.
I mean take
Bigdeli. They guy has shown he’s skillful. Fast & quick. Shoots well. Runs hard. Scores well. Isn’t it time we gave such players a chance at TM which is finding scoring goals difficult? Especially since he may be coordinated with Meydavoodi up front, which makes a more cohesive attacking front for the team.
Taheri, another youngster, is also worth a look and call up, even if it’s TM-B.
These two youngsters have a lot to say. Along with other SS-A players like
Hamoudi who was excellent in our Omid team and has grown more mature since.
--------------------
and finally, let me say Ghotbi is proving what many of us said earlier. He may be a good coach, but isn’t experienced enough as the DECISION-maker ( head coach, in other words ) and needs to coach clubs for a few seasons to get the hang of HEAD-coaching.
As Mr. Mohases said, him sticking to a more-or-less same line up throughout the season with little changes, has become PP’s folly and Achilles’ heal. And that points to his inexperience as the decision-maker.
I still maintain PP’s early success was MORE due to Denizli’s efforts and hard work of last season than ghotbi’s. and as we moved away from last season, Denizli’s effect wore off and we now see the result of appointing inexperienced coaches at our clubs.
Now, I may be just over-stretching here. But the guy isn’t all that bad and I hope he stays in our football.
In fact I think if we’re allowed to stretch our imagination a bit, we can put Daei as TM coach and replace him at saipa with Ghotbi, if PP fires him due to the string of bad results.
Or maybe I’m just pushing it !!
