Hello everyone, As I was writing a reply to the thread titled "Iran from Mexico's perspective", I realized that we should really focus on next steps.
First of all, the following players without doubt didn't live up to expectations and wouldn't have earned a spot in a European club if they didn't have a European history:
Karimi - Injury impacted his play and he was ineffective in both games.
Mahdavikia - My favourite TM player btw! His crosses were short, he didn't even have one run down the line!!! I watched at least 10 Hamburgh games this year and he always performed. It was really dissapointing for me but he will live on to be my favourite player.
Hashemian - First game, he couldn't do anything because of Daei's presence. He obviously got frustred at times and put his head down and tried too much.
Zandi - he did well in the short time he played. This guy is soccer smart. He knows when to pass, when to shoot etc. I hope to see him play a full game against Angola and for him to secure a contract with a good German team to see him as an inflential player in the Asian cup and WC 2010.
Now, the players responsible for a somewhat respectable performance and likely to earn a European contract in order of likelyhood are:
Kaebi - there simply aren't too many others who can play against the likes of Figo and Ronaldo... He was in their heads. They couldn't beat him. The best player by far in the Portugal game.
Teymourian - This guy is fit and our best player so far. He simply didn't stop. He anticipated and intercepted numerous times.
Mandachi - Strong like Bull! He has potential to kill!
Nekounam - Aside from Kaebi, he is TM's most deserving player based on the past two years. He performed very well and likes to control the field. He nevers runs away and enjoys playing a short game. He has great vision and will do well on selective teams.
Nosrati - LEt's face it guys... he's a right footer playing on the left! he beat his man in the air everytime and can be a deadly defender if he gets his chance! Not sure if he'll be with in 2010 but had to mention his performance.
To sum it up, our stars didn't meet expectations while our non-European core players PLAYED GREAT! Weird but true.
Good luck to the all and I hope to see a more experienced team in 2010!
I think Kabbi played pretty well along with Teymurian. They both deserve a look from European teams. I totally agree with the Nosrati assesment. I think he would be really good in Yah Yah spot. However I am very dissapointed with Nekunams performance lately, and I am not just talking about the World Cup. Nekunam has not taken the next step into becoming a better player. Maybe he has hit the ceiling, I dont know. I believe Madanchi has got potential, but did he do enough to catch the eyes of the european teams?
You are dead on with Zandi also. I love Zandi's game. He is the ultimate team player. A lot of guys here like to bash his game, but as far as soccer IQ he is one of the smartest players on the team.
kaebi, teymourian, nekounam, madanchi and nosrati played well and deserve to play for European clubs,
karimi was the most disappointing legionnaire! he was not 100% fit but in the Portugal game, in the few occasions he got the ball and dribbled some players he was totally alone and naturally either ended up losing the ball or making a wrong pass that went nowhere but to the feet of the Portuguese players, the chemistry between karimi and the rest of the team was simply inexistent!
