Lessons from championship league red cards

Against Chelsea, Barcelona had the advantage of playing aginst 10 men
after Chelsea defender Del Horno was redcarded in minute 37. Barcelon
won 2-1, after Chelseas solid defence and attack ultimately broke down
late in the game: Chelsea scored in minute 59, but strikes in minute 71
    and 80 caused Cleseas elimination.

Today against Arsenal it was even worse:
a middlefielder (Pires) had to be taken out because the goal keeper
Lehmann got redcarded! The outcome was pretty much the same:
Even though Arsenal scored first, again their defence broke down like
Chelsea's this time in minute 76 and 80! Looking at the type of goals,
one could argue Lehmann could have saved them had he been the keeper.

    First:
The question is, wouldn't Arsenal have been better off had Lehmann let Eto score? And are our goalkeepers FULLY aware of this tradeoff, and have
this type of tradeoff been discussed?

    Second:
Some of our defensive players have a bad habit of doing a sliding tackle
    very frequently.
Kaebi and GolMo are two that come to my mind. Aside from the dangers
of missing the tackle and letting the attacker proceed, this can easily turn
to redcard and is not the most sound way of defending anyways. This one
is a bit tougher to rule out, but at least should be mentioned as a
    last resort way of defending.
To all those who were murdered, beaten, abused, raped
for simply asking "where is my vote?"
We say, Iranian people will never forget you! And we will not let the
    World to forget you.
    No to dictatorship!

shoooooot, I hate that when the ref is the one to remember from a beautiful game. He just killed the game with that stupid call, it was an obvious goal with advantage to play, no one could have hurt, Barca would go 1-0, and Lehmann stayed in the field.

Well about your concern, have you seen how Mirza fake injury? You may get some idea about the rest you asked here. If not, his IQ is too low to consider even warn him about such a dilamma. We may only hope such a thing never happen for us.

    Cheers

    hehehe,
quite frankly speaking, i too do feel some of our players are not very intelligent, or they dont use their "hoosh" when playing (although i feel ashamed saying this but it pissess me off to see them sometimes act so immaturedly)
i think mirzapour and badavi dont use their intelligence at all. even kaabi and taghipour to an extent.

but players like yahya, kia, daei and karimi are smart. infact, i think karimi is way too diplomatic and cunning, no wonder he always gets wat he wants although he doesnt work as hard as hashemian or kia!

and about tackling in general, thats exactly why i dont wanna see sadeghi playing for in LB. he gives away way too many fouls and gets cards way too carelessly, that too in a biased semi pro league and refreeing against weaker teams. imagine wat will happen in the worldcup against stronger teams, professional, unbiased and strict refrees! no doubt he is talented and can be a very good asset for TM, but plz, not for this worldcup, with his very little experience.

Yes Hajagha, the ref clearly killed the game. I know he had a choice of either going with an advantage or sending the goalie off(but not both choices). Imagine if Arsenal had won the game with 10 men!!! I think Barcelona would have wanted a goal instead of the goalie being sent off.
How does a referee decide a call like that in the heat of the moment?

On a different subject, Someone needs to remind Kazemian not to take off his shirt after scoring(if he scores). Taking off shirts or having an under-shirt with writings on it(exposed) has an automatic yellow card in WC2006.

Going back to my first concern: The main point
was tradeoff. How would an action impact the aim of the team?

If your team is up by 1 goal or tied in minute 85 or 80 of the game, it may
make sense to take the card and not concede a goal. Early on in the
game however this decison may be much less sound. Also even if it is
minute 80 and you are the keeper, and the team has made all the subs,
should you take the card instead of the goal?

So this may not just be a dumb vs smart player question, but a team
prepration to deal with this boundry situations. Obviously, a player has a
split second to make the decision. If preprared one would hope, such
decision can be made by a players mind to help the team aims than simply
    his reflexes.

It is particularly important for us, as we are collectively as a nation fall
in the more emotional end of specterum to be mentally prepared for dealing
    with this type of situations.

Good point GK jaan. One of our reserve keepers made that mistake in Pas during ACL last year. Unfortunately, even a keeper in Lehman level can make that mental mistake. I am sure the keepers are informed and are aware of the facts stated. However, what happens during the match and how brain vs muscle malfunctions is a scientific problem that often surfaces in sports
We thank and support Mr.Kamran Delan for many years of dedication and service to Iranian Football Community.

I'm sure Lehman was going for it intentionally. He probably hoped that him grabbing his ankle would not seem intentional so that he could get away with it. But with todays game cameras are everywhere, so its better not to risk it.

Another issue to remember is that we are not the home team or the US, so I don't see any refs helping our team out, like they did in France for the US when Keller fouled Azizi in the box. I think the europeans want our team out since many are already calling for our expulsion prior to the games. TM should be very careful so as not to give the refs any chance of sending our players off the pitch, which I am sure they are dying to do.
