He did - it most likely is down to getting to know each other’s games. Lots of pace Up front from all around.

According to LiveScore, Eckert is not starting and not on the bench vs Charleroi. Any idea what's up with him?

My guessing with his previous record would be an injury. He can’t seem to stay fit.

Champions League qualifier and Eckert Ayensa still out of the squad. It won’t be performance related as he started, played well and the whole of their first league game.

They are 1-0 up at half time v Rangers.

USG won 2-0 so they take a good lead to the away leg against Rangers.

acc to these he trained individually this week due to muscle injury. Does not seem major.

I have mad respect for you guys

This is a quarter-iranian guy playing in the belgian league in a position where we already have two outstanding strikers and a number of other great forwards

Ten pages already and the season hasn't even started.

how many players do we have in CL (even qualifier)? Beating rangers who went to EL final last year is quite impressive.

He is quite versatile and not true 9. More of a wide option or SS. Would you rather invite him at age 25 or saeid sadeghi types lol

This is their European squad list -
                    usg.png

He is not in their list of 23 players that they have submitted to UEFA, so unless they sell someone, he won't be playing European football this season.

Dadash, even his own club don't consider him a first team player at this moment in time...
They didn't include him in their squad list they sent to UEFA.

If he's not a first team player for his club, why should be in his country's team??

just for today. The transfer window is still open so registration period is not closed. That list is finalized and locked in so to speak for official group stages

Except for any player sales, the list is locked until end of this calendar year (December 2022).
But they have only submitted 21 names out of the 23 possible to UEFA.

So it is still possible, as they have 2 empty slots, that they add Dennis to the list, but it seems more likely they've kept it open for new transfers.
If they wanted him on the list, they would have added him already??

If they are not interested in him, why buy him, start him every preseason game (where he played quite well), and start him in the first game of the league.

Per belgian reports, he has a minor muscle injury and hence why not included this week

Talks that they are looking to sign a Nigerian striker also. However Eckert Ayensa started the pre season friendlies and also the first league game before his slight niggle. I would be surprised if he isn’t included in the eventual European squad.

USG are known lately for taking players from lower league teams in the top 5 Euro countries. Two of their English players came from Accrington Stanley, Undav who they sold to Brighton came from lower league German football.

He looks like a great footballer, versatile as you say and i really like reading the thread. I know he feels strongly about his iranian roots and if the option comes for him to join a training camp, I am all for it.

But this is the only field (wing-forward/support striker/centre forward options) we are pretty stacked in.

In centre forward (and SS) we have Taremi (also wing-forward too) and Azmoun who are outstanding. Shahab zahedi is an absolute unit and so pesky to play against in the centre.

And in the wide forward and SS positions we have so many talented options:

Mohebi is really awkward to defend against and his true position seems to be inside wing-forward. I still think he has an X-factor which is hard for opponents to deal with
Allahyar has those positions pretty solidly in his repertoire
                                Hosseinzadeh is a good wing-forward
Jahanbakhsh plays SS pretty well, as does Ghoddos. Both also consider wing-forward their best positions
Some would say Alipour deserves a shot (he can play SS or CF)
Others we have who have played in these positions at different points include Gholizadeh, Ghaedi
And in centre forward we still have Kaveh and Ansarifard who are still 30 and 32

If he were a defensive midfielder then I would be delivering the airport flowers and home visit chelo kabab myself
