Tehran Times - Former Iran national football team striker Edmond Bezik believes that the current situation of the Iranian football federation suggests that nobody should expect significant success from the national team in the 2022 World Cup.

Iran are in Group B of the World Cup with England and the U.S. , which kicks off Nov. 21 in Qatar. But while Iran's rivals and other Asian representatives such as Japan and South Korea have established their preparation program with high-profile warm-ups, Iran just have confirmed one friendly match against Canada for the next month in Vancouver.

“Every coach has his own philosophy about team preparation. The ideas of Dragan Skocic should definitely be respected,” said Bezik in his interview with Tehran Times.

“However, the question is: with the current situation of the Iranian Football Federation, can the plans of the head coach of the national team be implemented? Most teams have already arranged matches, and we will have to find the strong opponents to prepare our team,” added the head coach of Persepolis' U23 team.

The interim president of the Football Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran (FFIRI), Mirshad Majedi, has said they will announce the friendlies until the details are finalized.

“The Iranian football community hopes for a greater urgency when the soccer federation meets to choose a new president in the upcoming months,” he added.

Bezik sees a big challenge ahead of the national team: “The current condition of Iran national team is like a club that does not have a general manager. Can we expect accurate planning and implementation of programs in such a team?”

"The big problem of the FFIRI is that there is no proper budget to set up appropriate fixtures in the build-up to the World Cup. Also, this federation has no ability to communicate with the top football federations.

“Iran have been drawn into a difficult group. We should not expect much from our national team because we have tough matches ahead of us and the conditions for preparing the team are not good,” Bezik concluded.

Been saying this for a while now. Despite the level of talent, this is the worst prepared/coached Team we've sent to the world cup. I'm expecting maximum 1 point. Talent alone will not get us anywhere if the players are not prepared and morale is low because of shit preparation

This is ridiculous. While IR is known for kidnappings, murders and political assassinations abroad (Ruhollah Zam, Bakhtiar, Ghasempour, Farokhzad) if we go by Alinejad's logic then Ali Parvin should also be arrested for meeting with Raiesie who himself was a member of the "death committee" responsible for the mass executions of political prisoners in the summer of 1988. It's an unfortunate fact of living in IR and being part of the broader establishment even when it is not political. I don't agree with what Parvin did in supporting Raiesie, or what Beiro said about the "Rahbar" but should they be arrested for taking those actions or saying those things, absolutely not. This is called "guilt by association" and anyone who knows the basics about human rights would not go for this.

With six months to go until the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, controversy has sparked after the Chilean Football Federation filed a complaint about serious irregularities involving the Ecuador squad during the qualifiers.

Ecuador allegedly hid the true identity of one of their call-ups, a player called Byron Castillo. Chile has already reported the allegedly fake documentation to FIFA, demanding that they take Ecuador's spot in the World Cup.

The lawyer of the Chilean Football Federation, Eduardo Carlezzo, has told MARCA that Castillo's documents are fake, noting that the player is Colombian.

Castillo has played eight games with Ecuador in the World Cup qualifiers, two of them against Chile.

"We have filed a complaint with FIFA as a result of what we believe is a very serious incident in the call-up of the player Byron Castillo with the Ecuadorian national team," Carlezzo told MARCA.

"We have thoroughly investigated the case to really understand where the player was born and we are clear - he was born in Colombia.

"What we are stating categorically is that Byron Javier Castillo Segura was born in Tumaco, Colombia, on July 25, 1995, and Byron David Castillo Segura, who would have been born on November 10, 1998, does not exist, he is a ghost. It is an adulteration, a forgery and even a crime by the laws of Ecuador."

Carlezzo went on to provide more information on how the documents were allegedly forged, with everything starting at a now-suspended football club in Ecuador.

"The case has a very solid narrative based on documents that show how the forgery of documents began in Ecuador," added Carlezzo.

"You have to keep in mind that all this starts with a very deep scheme of forgery and adulteration of player documents. It all started in 2012 in the province of Guayas [in Ecuador] with a club called Norte America. Precisely, Byron Castillo was registered in that club in 2012.

"The Ecuadorian Federation itself named this club as the epicentre of the falsification of player documents in Ecuador and it was suspended later. Several employees were arrested for this as well."

The Chilean Federation has also requested a hearing with FIFA due to the seriousness of the incident, for the player to offer his take on the issue. So far, FIFA has not responded to the complaint.

Chile are surprised by this scandal that has affected the World Cup a few months before the tournament kicks off. Ecuador finished four in the qualifiers, but Chile are now seeking La Tri's spot in the Qatar World Cup.

The response of the Ecuadorian Football Federation
For their part, the Ecuadorian Football Federation issued this statement in response to the Chilean Football Federation's claims to explain that they "will be ready to demonstrate before FIFA or before the necessary body, that at all times we have acted legally and that our meritorious qualification for the World Cup in Qatar 2022 is the result of this."
