Tbh i was expecting more from Delfi. He was the star of the youth team with Allahyar. He is still very young but couple of injuries have slowed down his progress
At this stage and considering the lower league/team he is playing for, he needs to at least get plenty of playing time like Allahyar which is not the case.

Sure. But in the overall scheme of this team going to olympics they will play an important role. Remember this upcoming AC will not factor into olympic qualification.

But many more ingredients are needed for overall structural success of the team, especially defensively. IF Kia can pull these elements together then I am optimistic.

Next phase Iran to face much stronger teams and that will measure talents, strength of players and quality of coaches. Mkia said Iran started late and was not prepared as much as others , very true statement but he had share of that shortcoming. Congratulate to Iran U23 and coaches for advancing to next level but it's first step. Iran was not the youngest team , nor the best team but exhibit potential to aim for next challenge of advancing from next group. All 4 teams of pot1 are stronger than Tajikistan and it's possibility that Iran will face them again. Most difficult but exiting challenge will be , Uzbekistan, Iran, Japan, Tajikistan in one group, some other possibilities are not less exiting. Most teams will participate to win Championship with their best squads ( 1/1/1999) but Mkia said he wants to go with a younger team. Very unlikely Iran U23 can advance with 2 years younger players and nothing much to gain from defeat . Best is to participate with mixed aged players, Even Tajikistan team that lost to Iran but played much better had 10,19 years old players in their squad. Iran was the only team with 3 foreign coaches and base on their contract they will be with the team two more years but because players are involved in PSG & Azadeghan leagues there will be limited training camps to work with the players and the team. We shall see if these coaches are just for training camps & competitions or they will stay in Iran to monitor current & new players. Iran U23 preparation, selections and performance except versus Lebanon was not ideal but unfortunately constructive criticism of Coaches were lost between joy of victory and incompetence sport journal in Iran. Mahdavikia is very popular with the fan and Media and has a good relation with IFF official but all that may change if he makes excuses for the next round. Yasin & Ehsan, Best players of Group B

By weekend U23 training camp will end .U23 won first match 2-1 against liq1 team Khoosheh Tallaei and there might be a second match before going to Tajikistan.

Nepal and Lebanon won't be serious challenge but will help Iran to get ready for main opponent Tajikistan.
Tajikistan U23 is no Khooseh Tallaei, they are experienced and strong team playing at home. Last year some of same player as U19 defeated Iran side that include several current U23 players ( Shahvwedi , Salmani,Hazbavi ,Ahmadi, Barzegar, Zavari, Hasheminejad , Kor... ).

Unlike Iran during past months has played few international games so they will be ready for Iran.

Their current squad include 6 National Team players and 7 Esteghlal players with ACL experience . Few of their players few months ago played against Persepolis during ACL playoff games.

Their best player is their Captain # 17 Ehsan but there are few other good players that nay cause Iran trouble/

Sheriddin, Rostam and Nureddin all are good forwards and Vahdat, Alidzhon , Safarov are solid defenders.

Vahdat ( CB ) play for Esteghlal and NT and is strong and physical player. He played well against Persepolis.

He has played 20 games for Esteghlal ( 1,540 Min ) and 7 AFC games. He and other CB Alidzhn has more experienced than Iran U23 defenders.

Next Traning camp will be around Jan 23-Feb2 ,in Tehran and not in Kish as previously mentioned, almost the same with TM traning for two reasons:
1- Players availebility ( FIFA days)
2- Mahdavikia need to be close to TM ( as adviser of IFF cheif like in the past ).
List of players will be published 1-2 days prior to start of training .
Players born after Jan 1, 1999 are eligible to play for 2022 AFC U23 Championship

Players born on or after 1 January 1999 are eligible to compete in the tournament. Each team have to register a squad of minimum 18 players and maximum 23 players, a minimum three of whom must be selected as goalkeepers (Regulations Article 26.3).

We are playing for AFC U23 championship facing Korea, Australia, Japan, Saudi Arabi, Qatar,,,,, and we should play with full force and aim for championship, there will be time after that to focus on Olympic squad
