This competition is pretty useless, no? No qualification for Olympic or any U world cup, no scouts?

        .

        No it's not useless.

It's not Olympic qualification but "AFC U-23 Asian Cup".

This tournament is held every two years. The Olympic year tournaments, such in 2016 and 2020, 2024 are doubled as the Olympic's AFC qualifiers, & 2022 is Afc U23 Asian cup.

It's very important to prepare and engage ourU20 & U23 players in competitive tournament and learn to win.

We like it or not this is our futureTM and everything about is important not useless.

When Mkia was hired as a U23 coach he was told byIFF this project is 10 year plan to recycle TM .

I don't know if Mkia is the right coach /Managerfor that but he has given change & challenge.

Generally only 3-4 u23 teams (or let's say a little bit more, even in other countries ) become TM regular. If they is no qualification for any international competition and no Euro scouts, the results in the competition are not so important and we can use it as a preparation.
We have seen many U23 teams or u23 players do wonders and have an average career.

Btw, does the previous Olympics help players from countries like Iran to get a good transfer after? I feel nobody care about football in Olympics anymore

1- Iran has not qualified for Olympic for decades hence no exposure for Iran, But one can argue it helped Japan, Korea in the past
2- These process and tournaments are not all about Transfer of players that's only residual benefit of it.
3- Process of entering such important tournaments will help generation( class) of players in that age group in various aspects. Some benefits are obvious and immediate others are indirect.
Class of U16 players that qualified for Asian U16 championship and advanced to WC17 is a good example of success of such events.
Most of the same players are currently in U23 squad and some will make it to Tm hopefully. Sayadmanesh & Delfi got exposure because of that too.

Because of Corona 2020-2021 Asian U16-U19 was cancelled and we have seen the terrible consequence in Iran for that age group.
For 2020-21 we currently don't have U17-u!9 teams nor Coaches for them as a result no training, no developments as before. Those tournaments are very useful and aspiring for younger players and often a window of opportunity for success.

To argue there is no benefit from these games is a defeated argument.

Its very shortsighted to say youth competitions are meaningless if there is no euro scouts to play for.

If you want to build a strong national football program you have to address not qualifying for an olympics in half a century.

We need to develop a culture of respect and importance for our youth national teams. Of the current TM everybody except amiri, Taremi, Ghoddos, maybe Abedz played for a national youth age group, or multiple.

Building this culture means when there is a youth world cup we qualify for it with ease and perform well, and many scouts naturally come to our matches and take our best players because they recognize that we are regular producers of strong young talent and not just random instances of qualification, few good players.

And that means taking seriously tournaments like these, and starting the hard process of building a team with required chemistry to properly trouble top youth teams in the world. You think TM youth side can go from nothing to beating worlds best over night? No, it would be typical disaster we experienced before.

Rare success of Chamanian side was result of multiple years work and preparation, having players together for long time and building a clear identity of play.

If Peirovani side had the same before u20 WC then Ghayedi, Shekari, Noorafkan, Aghasi , Derakhshanmehr may be playing for solid euro clubs now and already important TM players.

Time to take these things seriously if we want to really advance as a footballing nation, not look solely at legionairre presence as definition of success. As St Mark mentions, if you build a reputable strong program that will come and be much more regular, quality transfers than what we currently see for our young players.

Not including Asadabadi , there are 5 Right Wingers in the list

Mohebbi & Khaghani may have a better chance for the next list.

( Mohebbi with Peykan had a friendly today , he scored )
