The draw for the third round will be held on 24 June 2021[4] in Malaysia at 15:00 (MST, UTC+8), at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The seeding will be based on the FIFA World Rankings of May 2021.
Pot 1 contains the teams ranked 1–2.
Pot 2 contains the teams ranked 3–4.
Pot 3 contains the teams ranked 5–6.
Pot 4 contains the teams ranked 7–8.
Pot 5 contains the teams ranked 9–10.
Pot 6 contains the teams ranked 11–12.
Each group contains one team from each of the six pots. The fixtures of each group will be automatically decided based on the respective pot of each team.

Priorities for the next two months:

1. secure two friendlies and a decent training camp space for TM to use as prep for the September WC qualifiers. We should know our draw shortly.
2. a successful summer transfer window including moves for TM players such as Jahanbkhsh and Hosseini to a respectable clubs with playing time, Gholi and Sardar to better leagues.
3. a successful summer transfer window for borderline/potential TM players such as Kanaani, Salimi, Niazmand, Mohebi, and our few annual IPL surprises.
4. calling up a younger squad for at least participation in the friendlies, including players such as Mohebi, Sayyadmanesh, Salmani, Mehdikhani, Noorafkan, Ghayedi, etc. Test also to see potential future TM defenders and midfielders (pipeline is packed for Forwards and even GK)!

Silver lining is that with covid squeezing the schedule the players are basically taking a 2 month break from TM and will be back in camp early September for the next round coming off 4 matches. they should be in pretty good sync to be honest

I hope for a team with limited friendlies/prep these 4 games in quick succession and extended period of time all together helped a lot of with chemistry and gelling.

I'm totally fine playing some puppet state ranked 105 for an international friendly. The idea is that we don't go into our first WCQ completely cold and can identify any blind spots that emerge after not seeing each other for two months.

As well, so we can test some younger players. If we don't do this now, it will stymie Team Melli for WC 2026. We need to get the next generation playing time in an IRAN shirt and we can't be short sighted about that fact.
