Best of luck to Mehrdad Mohamadi, assuming that there were no offers from midtable Portuguese clubs or decent European clubs he did the right thing for his future. Better play in Qatar and make good money than play in the second division of Portugal for a meagre salary.

Mehrdad's rather Direct and quick attacking play is a rather good fit/match for the gutter league action..! i think he is going to score a shitt ton of goals there next season ... unless his team is dogshitt..!?

with his performance (which was more than decent at such a small club) he surely had opportunities to stay in Europe (at least in Portugal), but never for the $$$$ the Al Arabis offer.....

Going from IPL to Al Arabi is 1 thing, but doing this from Europe, being a starter at your club is plain stupid.

But that's a biased assumption because he happens to be an Iranian player.

He had a decent(not excellent) season in the worst team of the league. Good enough to maybe get him an offer from another small Portuguese team (many of which are going through financial issues at the moment). Not many people would or should take a risk of ending up being relegated and not paid by a crappy team.

The offers from bigger clubs like St.Ettiene and such were almost certainly bazar-garmi by his agent or rumours made up by some bored football writer.

It is an assumption, just like your assumption he had no decent offers ; )

As far as we are aware he had no offers from other clubs, and playing in the second division of Portugal is a very bad option for him (even then CD Aves had not extended his contract). So understandable that he chose a move to Qatar for his and his families future. At the end of the day, football is a job for these guys and during their short football careers they need to secure a livelihood for after they have retired from football. Footballers don't really have an high education most of the time and for certain they don't have work experience as playing football is not counted as work experience when one applies for a job in his late 20's or 30's.

It's the same with us, we work for organizations (public or private) that offer us the best conditions and prospects for the future. If Mohamadi was offered a contract at lets say Sporting Braga or Rio Ave i would have advised him to stay in Portugal as he would have a good chance to develop and grow as a footballer. But this does not seem to be the case with Mohamadi, so good on him to take this opportunity.

Let that man go get his bread. At the end of the day football is a game and it's his source of income.

Qatar isn't a bad place to live like many of you may think, especially when you have money.
Realistically he's not going to a big european team anyway.

Could you perhaps enlighten us about the opportunities he had (to stay) in Europe? Which offers did he have etc.

Funny how people here assume he had better offers in Europe bit didnt take it and took a crappier deal in Qatar. He himself said that he wants to stay in Europe so that it itself should tell you alot.

knock yourself out. I know you want to say everything is fake but here it is. He talks about st ettiene at around 13:44 and then qatar, portugal, and I think one other a bit after in the same interview, you can find those yourself.

My guess is the st ettiene was real, not fake or bazaar garmi, but also in the realm of interest and not official offer yet. Just because a move doesnt happen doesnt also mean it was bazaar garmi. The two can be mutually exclusive.

I am sure after his season he had solid portuguese proposals as he mentions, not just from crappy sides either. Probably some ok midtable sides. In the end the qatari money was too good to turn down and thats not ideal imo because players like him are exporting a positive image of iranian players abroad. but given he is like our 4th choice striker with karim its not a disaster either. I am happy for him to secure his financial future. He is a hardworking honest kid and deserves it.
