    Greatest World Cups

    Hi all,

Wanted to get your thoughts on the greatest World Cups to date. My top 5 are below, which ones are yours?

    5. USA 94
    4. Spain 82
    3. Mexico 70
    2.Mexico 86
    1. Italia 90

Iran had a great performance in Russia 2018 and Russia 2018 would be up there in my list. Its just a huge shame that Iran did not qualify for Italia 90 or USA 94.

Iran did not take part in the 1982 world cup qualifying round and was disqualified for Mexico 86.

Italy 90 was one of the worst with all of the anti soccer tactics, lowest ever goals per game average and parade of red cards. The best were Mexico 1970, Mexico 1986 and possibly USA 1994.
I went to Sharif University. I'm a superior genetic mutation, an improvement on the existing mediocre stock.

        1. 1998 - for sure. Just look at how many superstars were there and all shone. Great games too with a lot of goals.
        2. 1970 - Many memorable and classic games
        3. 2018 - Specially Iran's games
        4. 1986 - Great football
        5. 1982, 2006, 2014

1990, 1994, 2002 and 2010 were the worst. Boring finals, bribed refs, etc.

I think your age plays alot into it but 1998 was amazing. It had wonderful football, great atmosphere and a type of color that just doesnt' seem to exist anymore.

2002 and 2010 will go down as very bad World Cups.

I genuinely believe 2018 will go down as one of the all time greats along with 82 and 86.

France 98 for the reasons Nokhodi mentioned.

                  1) 1998 like others have said. Football back then was something else, it was real and intense. Today it's so homogeneous, like a sausage factor
                  2) 2018 (because of Iran's games and Croatia)
                  3) 2014 (Iran-Argentina)

Mexico 70 with that outstanding legendary Brazilian team of Pele, Rivelino, Tostao, Jerziniho...

                    and then France 98

1998 is my favorite. The drama of the knockout stages is something I think only 2006 comes close. Added to that, a lot of great players having great tournaments. 2014 and 2018 have both been enjoyable though.

2006 was the last time so many legends of the game played for their last time. Lots of nice goals that tournament too. Unfortunately for Iran, it was probably our worst ever WC.

2018 group stages and R16 were wild but later stages it just became a battle over which team outran the other.

Haven't witnessed many World Cups due to my age, but for me personally :

                              1. World Cup 2006: Netherlands vs. Portugal game was full of drama.
                              2. World Cup 2014: TM did fairly well with the limited player material we had.
                              3. World Cup 2018: TM came inches close to eliminate Portugal and progress to the next round.
