Welcome in Belgium Beiranvand, let Europe see who you are

Antwerp's fourth acquisition has finally arrived: goalkeeper Beiranvand lands in Zaventem

He finally got there. Alireza Beiranvand (27), the goalkeeper of Persepolis FC and the Iranian national team, has landed in Belgium, ready to finalize his transfer to Antwerp.
ALSO READ. Marc Wilmots praising Alireza Beiranvand, who will complete his transfer to Antwerp: "He will surprise you"

What a soap, especially for the press and public in Iran. Beiranvand already reached an agreement with Antwerp for three years in January (with option) and would come across during the international break in March for his medical tests and signature. But then came the corona crisis and he was stuck in Iran, one of the hardest hit countries. Even when the competitions stopped, he never got to our country. He was always stopped by the authorities and embassy because the borders of Europe were closed to non-EU citizens. Unlike, for example, the Iranian players from Charleroi, who could travel to Belgium because they already stayed here, he was unable to present a valid visa. In the meantime, Beiranvand continued to train at Persepolis and on June 29 he even played a league game, but from July 1 it was clear that he would no longer take action. Last week he finally got the green light for his departure and so he flew today - early Monday morning - from Tehran to Qatari Doha, and from there to Zaventem, where he arrived around 2 p.m.

Beiranvand is unlucky that Jean Butez (25) has already signed with Antwerp and is now well established. But if he passes his medical tests and his arrival is officialized, he can become a fierce competitor for the French goalkeeper. Beiranvand was twice champion with Persepolis and has been Iran's number one for several years - including at the 2018 World Cup, where he stopped a penalty from Cristiano Ronaldo. His ex- (bond) coach Marc Wilmots says he tipped him at Luciano D'Onofrio and praised him in our newspaper. He called him in the same breath with Thibaut Courtois and Simon Mignolet. That is perhaps a bit premature, especially because he has to get adjusted first. And the fact that he can barely speak English will make his adjustment more difficult. But the 1 meter 94 large Beiranvand will impress anyway,
Iran deserves better, TM deserves better.
    O.G from '97 & still here

What a nice next chapter for Beiranvand, from being homeless to being the number 1 keeper to TM, to making the WC and stopping CR7, and now to making the team in a top European league. Congrats Alireza Jaan, you deserve it!

It’s a shame this whole delay is hurting what looked like his certain #1 spot. This butez guy looked like the clear #2 but as the article cited since he’s been there and training with the team for now he’s the front runner. Hopefully beiro works hard and shows the club what he’s got
        Team Meli Iran
        Perspolis FC
        Malavan Bandar Anzali

It’s not ideal but also a bit exaggerated . They have been training for 2 weeks, played 1 friendly game. if anything beira is more fit than him bc PGPL actually resumed several weeks ago.

Beiro should be quick to win the top spot in my opinion. Some of his skill sets are unmatched by many European keepers

            Strengths:
            - Excellent at saving long shots and free-kicks
            - Physique means he can cover large portions of the goal with relative ease
            - Long throw ability has immense utility for accurate counter attacks from the back
            - Great at saving penalties
            - Plays well under pressure

            Weaknesses:
            - Crossing/corner exits have been problematic for him in the past; can misjudge the ball
            - Not great with his feet for teams who want their keeper to be comfortable playing out the back
            - Has trouble with low shots at times

For what its worth, Antwerp are building a really ambitious project. Historically they are the oldest team in belgium, and finally their old stadium is getting huge makeover this summer that will modernize it, but keeping the very close to pitch feel of the stands, reaching capacity of around 25,000. The season tickets are already sold out and they have a very loud, large, passionate fan base. Its a much bigger club than say a charleroi, much more history than even Gent or Genk for example who have become Belgiums top teams in recent times.

They have a strong defense and very experienced attacking players. They made one great signing so far which was Boya from Mouscron, a CDM, who had offers from werder bremen, Rangers, other big clubs in belgium to sign with antwerp because of their project. Their RB is excellent as well, Aurelio Buta who is the subject of interest from newcastle and wolves.

The top scorer of the league Mbokani also plays for them, Brugge and Gent have both tried to sign him this summer.

As a GK it is very hard to make it in europe if you dont know the language, cant communicate with players well. That is why its rare that a GK from out of Europe makes it to a league where they cant speak the language and start. Probably one of the most highly rated GK's outside of EU is wuilker Farinez of Venezuela who was only able to sign for Lens, a newly promoted french team on loan. Japans Gk's play for Sint truidense (lower midtable belgian team) and Portimonense (relegation candidate portugese team) only.

GK is a position that is really the spine of the team and not being able to speak language can be a real block, so many good teams wouldnt sign a foreign GK who cannot speak language/no EU experience for a number 1 spot Especially. Given that the Antwerp move is actually pretty solid for Beira. This is not the same for forwards, wingers, midfidlers, etc who dont have the same responsibility and communication requirements as a GK.

If Kaveh gets no other offers it can be a good place for him too.

Beiro knows from 6 months ago he will play in Belgium. I hope for him he used these 6 months (especially with the quarantine) to learn English and even some basics of Dutch, otherwise it is like he is coming as a tourist.

maybe we should get someone to get an interview with him to see if he knows any English or dutch?
BTW don't Belgians speak French for that matter?

it is regional. In Charleroi, french, in Eupen, German, in Gent , Dutch.

In antwerp they speak dutch too.
