Zenit 3-1 friendly win today. Azmoun goal at 3:12. Looks very sharp.

I actually think going to Zenit was important.

He met Dzyuba who helped him stamp out some negative aspects to his game(overemotional, improved linkup play etc)

^ clever run and slick finish..!!

also another clever attacking run on the first goal to the opposite wing which sucked in their defense and provided all important gap for Malcom to score..!
with this Malcom finally looking back healthy, Zenith attacking front looks far more dangerous and formidable..!! doubt anyone could stand in their way of taking the league crown again..!!

no doubt it turned out to be a wiser overall decision than going to Wolves in EPL, which was his only other realistic transfer option @ that time..!! Or Was it..??
Wolves play a pretty attacking football too .... wonder if he'd moved there and bagged a dozen or more goals in EPL, he'd probably woulda been a more sought after and respected striker in top leagues of europe..?
          hum...!
i still think Zenit was the better move overall.... he was a bit of an emotional mess and flake back at the time of the transfer ....not so sure he coulda adapted well enough to life outside of football in a whole new country, especially one as challenging to break in to as England..!!

Lazio wasn’t even mentioned at this time. Just wolves. With regards to wolves he made the right choice. Their CF is jimenez, they play one fwd system flanked by two smaller guys. Jimenez has been on of the best players and certainly one of best forwards in the whole league in the past 2 years with his production rate.

Wolves ended up buying cutrone (young fwd from ac Milan, really highly rated coming out of there). He essentially was their backup to azmoun . Barely played and left 6 months after to serie A.

Azmoun has improved in all aspects, stock has risen, has experienced winning championship. I agree it is time to go this summer, but I am happy with how zenit have treated him and improved him, and I think they are a good team in their own right.

If Dzyuba.rakitskiy, barrios, malcom, driussi and before them witsel, hulk, Danny, etc spent good time of their careers in zenit, it’s ok for the mighty azmoun to spend 1.5 seasons there, improve, play in CL, regain form and market value.

Lyon 1-0 up against Juve and last week RB Leipzig won against Spurs. Giving Zenit the benefit of the doubt, they legitimately were in a group of death! (Especially with injuries and such).

group of death definitely not, but a solid group nonetheless. Leipzig have shown to be an excellent team and zenit played two close matches with them despite being in different level altogether. They dominated lyon 2x, winning one and tying away. The away tie could easily have been a win had sardar not gone off injured.
Benfica and zenit essentially split their matches, both with resounding victories at home, although the last match was a tie heading into second half, and only then did zenit come unstuck without experience of rakitskiy, attacking threat of driussi, malcom.

Lyon, Leipzig resutls put into persepctive that zenit are not as bad as some here suggest. No they are not the top level of european teams, but still more evidence that they provided ad solid platform for sardar to shine and grow. They are certainly better than midtable serie A, midtable PL teams.

this saturday, 8am for those on West coast, Zenit lokomotiv. Will be the first league match of second half of season, after long winter break.

Sardar has maintained his good form throughout preseason, scoring the winner in a friendly vs CSKA, a hattrick vs some al shottor team, and one vs Kairat.

Malcom is back with zenit and in strong form. He will probably start.

The match will be on youtube with english commentary for first time as well.
