Their fans would have been hideous.
I’m guessing it was because the year before they reached the final of the FA Cup where they lost to Man United.

Like someone already mentioned the public hate the international break here because it means no premier league football and there’s been times where players have gotten injured so for that reason besides the WC most fans take club football over international and because of that the FA always arrange friendlies with top teams to attract fans and even still struggle to sell tickets.

So unless we get them in a tournament or some political agreement Iran and England will never play.

I hate international break with passion because Iran is excluded from it with (no friendly or sh1tty ones compared to other countries). I hate it more now we have lots of legionnaires to follow

Because famous countries like England, Brazil, Italy, you name it.....they PLAN their friendlies perhaps 18-24 months ahead of time and its a concept unheard of within IFF. They cant even plan a lunch meeting next week.

And they either want to play a good team for practice or they want money or some sort of sponsor will have to front it. Most sponsors dont care for Iran as their products (for example beer, gambling companies...even brands like nike or adidas) cant be sold (through proper channels) inside Iran. Its the same reason our players arent marketable.....Azmoun or Ghoddos would be playing in a top 6 team in the top 5 leagues if they were Korean or Japanese.

So once again Thank the wonderful Islamic Republic who has brought us so much prosperity. We can all thank Hossein, Ali and all the dead arabs that arabs dont even care about while we pay 20,000 toman for barbari while crying like they died yesterday

The English national team had its greatest accomplishment in a 1966 world cup championship. They haven't been to repeat that ever since and they would love to (like any other team). EPL is the toughest/best league in the world (IMHO), but that hasn't translated in a world power national team. At the moment, their players are not the most talented technically, but they make some of that deficit in work rate though to their credit.

I’m sure if the English team played Iran in Iran, they’d enjoy the atmosphere in Azadi and the positive attention they’ll receive from our fans.

But as EKBATAN stated, these teams plan ahead of time and consider every factor before making a decision to play Iran. Unfortunately, politics can be a factor in the decision making of these world class teams (for many reasons).

England can play almost team they want. Even the Japanese would have a hard time getting a game with them.

                        is that really a question?

Asian teams normally don't play too many European teams because our chances to play are only in world cups and friendlies.

we have never been grouped with England
and we can not arrange a friendly because a) they are not interested b) we cant afford it anyway c)we have political issues with the UK and most of the western world
