That might confirm my inclination to think Alireza Jahanbakhsh would fare best as the second striker in my preferred 4-3-3 formation.
The snag is Brighton are not good enough in midfield to play 4-3-3 in the Premier League! Otherwise a forward line of Alireza Jahanbakhsh, José Izquierdo and Florin Andone might be the conceivable future?
Even with the formidable midfield of Man United, 4-3-3 does not always work.
thats just not how he plays. If anybody payed any attention to him in AZ, he was a mainly on the right side, unless he started games in other positions. He has little defensive responsibility and a great connection with his fullback, very talented young norwegian svensson. Together they isolated and killed most opposition left backs. ARJ has the ability to cut inside and shoot, as well as play in great crosses, and maybe most impressively, play very accurate through balls to forwards. Murray doesnt really make those kind of runs that ARJ likes to play with such balls, but even regardless of that they dont have any chemistry for ARJ to really connnect with him on the pitch. On AZ, the main reason he was so effective was bc of his connection with first Vincent Janssen and then Wout Weghorst (now at Wolsburg). Playing arj 10 mins here and there and the odd start will not build the chemistry his game relies on to be effective.
He is not an attacking mid. He is a right winger. He is a classic right winger with added ability to cut inside and shoot. Please stop saying that he is an attacking mid. On our national team we were in need for a classic 10 for years and he was never once trusted to play there, even over an aging and injury prone dejagah. The guy is a right winger, that is his bread and butter. You bought him as a right winger, if he cant displace knocakert maybe you shouldnt have bought him then we all wouldnt have to be apart of this lame situation.
Pretty sure he will start the next game as well, as they won last game and as I recall he was involved in the winner (not an assist)
Original Ehsan of IK ISP and PFDC from 1999/2000!
I don't think he;s going to start any games until after the asian cup!
English Premier League (all clubs) wingers are expected to track back and defend. It is only in Dutch football wingers can get away without doing it. That from Dutch football which was credited as total football exponents in the past. alt: specialised players.
There is a trend for very quick wing-backs instead of wingers. Not at Brighton though.
It is arguable that the success of Salah came about because Klopp employed him as a second striker rather than as right winger?

exactly my point. He has to track back way more in PL. The effect of which is that he is too far from the goal to be effective bc : he doesnt have the dribbling or speed to make a big goal threat from that far back, he doesnt get involved in play as much, and is thus way less effective. Salah and Mane are effective bc although they do their fair share of defensive work, more often than that they are left up front to kill teams on counters, and it works, hence last season. Although this leaves liverpool more exposed defensively, the threat on the other end is just too great to discount.
Brighton have crappy midfielders and a small club mentality, and CH is just scared to do anything remotely controversial or attacking or proactive.
So their mids like propper and stephens dont have the legs or speed or mobility to cover the ground behind the wide players enough, and so the wide players have to play way further back. Thats part of the reason all of your wide players have always had low stats (still ARJ just has way more quality than those players).
But this all begs the question, if me and you can distinguish that this could be an issue, WHY ON EARTH did brighton pursue ARJ so hard, pay a record fee for him, and now wont field or him, or have people like you already suggesting he change his position? Something doesnt add up.
and in the long term, your proposed idea of him playing second striker doesnt make ANY sense, considering brightons best player is probably gross who is very effective there.
ARJ's position is RW. If you didnt want to play him there, then you really shouldnt have bought him.
