Iran vs Russia Player Ratings | Post Match Discussion

Beiranvand - 5 (Shaky several times, but made crucial saves in the 2nd half)

Ghafouri - 7 (Solid as usual)
Hosseini - 7.5 (Standard Seyed Jalal game)
Pouraliganji - 6 (Nothing amazing, some good clearances but could have probably done better on the goal)
Hajsafi - 4.5 (Quite bad positioning on the goal which left Taremi alone defending a cross instead of him)

Ebrahimi - 7 (Another solid game, put in some good tackles, calm with the ball, led the midfield)
Ezatolahi - 4 (Accumulating poor performances)
Amiri - 5 (Hustling but nothing noticeable)

    Jahanbakhsh - 5 (Average)
Taremi - 7.5 (Great game, he gave us our goal by himself basically with his great run, always on the move)
Azmoun - 6 (Poor 1st half, got the goal.)

    ---------------------------------------------

    Rezaeian - /
Cheshmi - 6.5 (Not too much time to do much but was decent regardless)
Imani - 5 (Not very good, felt like he was thrown into the deep end. Got out-muscled several times)
    Abdollahzadeh - /
    Ghoddos - 5 (Invisible)
    Rezaei - 5 (Ditto)

Overall good friendly. Result isn't bad since drawing Russia in their home is not easy, they are a solid 2nd tier UEFA side.

Ezzatolahi was awful. I will call him eftezalahi. Hajisafi was also terrible.

      Hosseini and Taremi were great.

      Everyone else was mediocre.

Im still worried about Hosseini and his lack of pace. He had a good game but several times agaonst Poloz and Kokorin on a loose ball difference in speed was crazy.

We cant play him vs a team of pace.

If Mohammmadi played we win this game 1-0 possibly 2-0.

Huge gap between him and Hajsafi at LB.

It's very concerning that Seyed Jalal is still one of our best players and our best defender at the age of 36. We need to find a replacement for him ASAP.

Hajsafi is a key player when played in his correct position, we can kind of blame Queiroz for this since we already tried him at lb in the past and it did not turn out well.

I won't even rate all the players but

Hosseini is still our best defender, and proved that he's good enough for teams that are physical and more fit than asian teams.

Like I mentioned a few days ago, Ebrahimi will be VERY important for us, he is the most natural CM we have, and doesn't need time to think, he just does his damn job.

We needed mohammadi, Hajsafi is atrocious, I hope he never plays in an important game as a defender, russia constantly used his side to attack us.

Ghafouri is solid, like I said before, he might start vs more attack heavy teams IMO.

We need ezatollahi to get his shit together, his lack of playing time is showing.

We will definitely need cheshmi as well.

                Overall good result.

                  Overall:

The first half Russia was stalled and shutdown by our defensive formation, nothing too exciting. After we scored the fantastic goal on the counter attack, it was all Russia with the attack, our defense started falling apart when under pressure. Unfortunately Carlos' subs did not work this game, and we completely lost all attacking ability after the subs, for the last 20 minutes we were just defending. It was a good friendly match, would've been nice to win, but in all honesty, we didn't really do much to deserve it.

                  Individual players:

Beiranvand - 3 (The only type of save he can make is from a shot from distance, he made a couple of saves. But man, his exits are amatuear like, and he needs to learn that a goalie is not allowed to ball watch!!! Terrible goalie, terrible performance again. Almost cost us a goal ball watching a cross, and another when he shot the ball at the Russian player)

Hajsafi - 3 (terrible defending as always, lost his man when we conceded the goal, constant giveaways, couldn't complete a pass)
Pouraliganji - 6.5 (pretty good in the first half, was challenged a bit in the second)
Hosseini - 9 (Amazing defending, always in the right place, won headers, clean tackles, fantastic)
Ghafouri - 8 (great job defending today, he looks solid. He stopped pretty much every attack that came towards him, also made a nice pass)

Ezatolahi - 2 (Leave the national team and come back when you know how to play soccer. Can't make a single pass or tackle, just fouls)
Ebrahimi - 7.5 (played well, lots of good coverage)

Amiri - 6.5 (non stop running and that is pretty much it, no dribbles, key passes, shots, just runs lol, same performance everytime)
Jahanbaksh - 6 (I would say "below average performance" but this is his average performance. No dribbles, terrible crosses, crappy set pieces)
Taremi - 8.5 (Amazing performance on the wing (in attack and defense), lost focus defending the goal, but he was fantastic other than that)

Azmoun - 7.5 (he scored a goal, but he lost good chances, was slow and didn't put much effort in.)

SUBS: (we lost control of the match with these subs)

Rezaeian - N/A (not on long enough, but overall he did well, won headers, nice defending)
Cheshmi - 6.5 (For the time he was on he did well)
Imani - 3.5 (kept falling over, losing the ball, bad tackle, no strength)
                  Abdollahzadeh - N/A
Ghoddos - 4 (I don't know how he managed to hide so well, king of hide and seek lol. Touched the ball once the entire time he was on)
Rezaei - 5 (Barely noticed him)

                  Final Remarks
The friendly served its purpose, playing against a strong European side is always an amazing way to asses where your team stands. We clearly have a lot of work to do. I also noticed just how good Mohammadi is, man look what happens when he isn't there, he's honestly one of our key players. I am worried about our goal keeping and Ezatolahi. We continue to be dangerous off counter attacks and pretty solid defending, we need to hold on to the ball better though. Our players are so rushed to force the counter, they keep losing possession. We also greatly missed Dejagah today as CAM.

Overall good friendly, just shows that we have a lot of options in attack, but we have no depth in CAM and LB, and our weakest point is our goalie and Ezatolahi.

Things we need to work on

                    1) Speed of passing. Look how crisp Russias passes were. Ours were kind of weak/low momentum

                    2) Speed in transition. If we are a counterattack team when we win the ball we need to go quick before they get back in position.

                    3) Getting our backup players accustomed.

                    4) Never play Hajsafi at Leftback again. If anything he should alternate with Ebrahimi at DM or with Amiri higher up.

Hard to judge Ghoddos and Rezaei because they didn't get any proper ball.

Hajsafi has no place in NT as starer in DM or LB. Ezzatollahi also need to put his shits together, same for JB who continue to be disappointing in NT level.
Taremi is Iran best player as we talk, despite some off the field issues and being immature.

If Beiranvand is still our no1 keeper, i bet you he will cost us couple of goals next year!

Can someone explain to me why Beiranvand cant learn to clear the ball to the sides? Every time he punches a ball its directly in the center of goal.

                              Beiranvand - |6|: Jekyll & Hyde performance

Ghafouri - 7. He was under intense pressure but he always closed down the opponents. I like at him RB way more than Rezaeian.
                              Hosseini - 7.5: Legend.
Pouraliganji - 7. Did great. Had to cover for Ezatollahi, Ebrahimi and the useless Hajisafi.
Hajsafi - 2 - an embarrassment. Too many attacks come from his side. Not just this game, but many TM games. He should not be starting. Only had a few good moves going forward, otherwise he's a zero. Mohammadi, please get better soon!

Ebrahimi - 5: He got overwhelmed. Physically comes up short.
Ezatolahi - 3: Horrible, I really hope he improves by the time the World Cup starts. Now that he's starting in his club in Russia I think he'll return to form. Ebrahimi and him basically leave a huge gap in the midle. They can't do anything to get forward movement going.
Amiri - 5 - lots of running, but his last touches suck.

Jahanbakhsh - 5: great movement, terrible last touch. He;s way too nervous.
Taremi - 7.5 - hustled, strong, aggressive, hungry... exactly what we need.
Azmoun - 6.5 - had some chances and scored.

                              ---------------------------------------------

Rezaeian - didn't play long enough.
Cheshmi - 6: gets slower and slower.
Imani - 5: I'd give him lower but it was his 2nd game. Invisible and very slow.
Abdollahzadeh - didn't play long enough.
Ghoddos - 5: needs to get himself more involved. In TM's system he's not going to get passed to. He has to win the balls himself (like Taremi does).
Rezaei - 5 - Not fed enough, but didn't slow down play.

                              Overall a good game though.
I was happy our defense and goalie got tested. Better teams will go at us like this. Teams that attack are what hurt our TM, not the teams that like to play tiki-taka and move slowly.
The last 15 minutes made things look worse than they are but we learned alot.
Very much looking forward to our games in November against hopefully similar to better leveled teams.
No more Hajisafi on TM please.
