World Cup 2018 Qualification Gets Under Way

I didn't know this is the first time in the history of the WC, where every member of FIFA registered for qualification - that's a total of 209 countries.

The following teams have already been eliminated from the competition:

* AFC: Nepal, Pakistan, Mongolia, Macau, Brunei, Sri Lanka

Note: Interestingly enough, this is Bhutan's debut in WCQ and they were the lowest ranked team in the word (209). But they managed to beat Sri Lanka (172) in both their home and away fixtures and will be included in the draw for the 2nd round with Iran.

* CAF: Zimbabwe.

Note: The have been banned by FIFA for having missed a deadline to make overdue payments to a NT coach.

* CONCACAF: 1st round games in this zone got underway on the 22nd and by next Tuesday (March 31st), 7 more teams will be eliminated from the WC.

Qatari's pulled an upset by beating Algeria 1-0 today in a friendly.

Pot 2: Oman, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan, Bahrain, Vietnam, Kuwait, Syria
Pot 3: Afghanistan, Thailand, Philippines, Palestine, Maldives, Tajikistan, Lebanon, India
Pot 4: Timor-Leste, Kyrgyzstan, Korea DPR, Myanmar, Turkmenistan, Bhutan, Singapore, Indonesia
Pot 5: Malaysia, Guam, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Yemen, Laos, Chinese Taipei, Cambodia

Unfortunately we won't get Iraq in our group, final round hopefully
