"Adnan Hamad appointed to coach Bahrain at Asian Cup
    Last Updated: Wednesday, August 06, 2014, 13:45

Jordan: Former Iraq and Jordan coach Adnan Hamad will lead Bahrain to next year`s Asian Cup in Australia after he was appointed as the replacement for Englishman Anthony Hudson.

Hudson`s abrupt resignation last week to take up the vacant post in charge of the New Zealand national team threw Bahrain`s preparations for January`s continental championship into disarray.

The Bahrain Football Association (BFA) initially said they would pursue Hudson in the courts for leaving a few months into a two-year contract but ultimately decided to focus their efforts on securing a replacement.

Hamad, Asia`s coach of the year in 2004 in one of several spells in charge of his native Iraq, led Jordan to the quarter-finals of the 2011 Asian Cup in Qatar.

He also oversaw an impressive qualifying campaign for the 2014 World Cup, in which the Jordanians beat Australia and Asian champions Japan, but he turned down a contract extension before they bowed out to Uruguay in a playoff.

"Adnan Hamad has worked with Iraq and Jordan, who are teams similar to Bahrain, and has vast experience with many clubs in the gulf so we have great confidence in his ability," BFA chief Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa told the body`s website.

The 53-year-old Hamad, who most recently coached Emirati club Baniyas, signed a two-year deal on Tuesday.

"I am happy to work with this generation of Bahrain players who are capable of achieving historic results," Hamad said.

"There are many challenges ahead of us but I am used to this from my time with the Iraq and Jordan national teams and I know Bahrain players have strong characters and they will rise to face these challenges."

Bahrain, whose best result at an Asian Cup was a semi-final appearance in 2004 in China, face Iran, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar in first round Group C in Australia next year."

^as much as I would love to see TM play England, I would take anything announced or confirmed by Wikipedia with a grain of salt. Not a reliable source until more sources confirm the matches. At this time all we can hope for that was confirmed or mentioned on multiple articles are the S.Korea and. Venezuela games.

If they play them on sep 9th, it should be possible, as they would be in the area anyway.

This basically says Team Melli will have 3 camps before the asian cup in january. One is expected to be in europe, one in tehran, and they will go to australia 10 days earlier to have one there as well. They are trying to play venezuela at the european camp and possibly another team. They will play korea in the tehran camp and theyre also trying to play an arab team. It doesnt say anything about games in the australia camp. So we should expect maybe 4 friendlies before the asian cup. Also I assume only the ipl players will be leaving for australia 10 days before since the european or arab based players probably wouldnt be released so early.

Not really related to ur group but thought it was interesting:

"World Cup - South Korea fails to reach deal with Van Marwijk

Talks between the Korea Football Association and Bert van Marwijk over the national team coaching job have broken down and South Korea will now turn their attention to other candidates, the KFA said on Sunday.

The Dutchman had been the KFA's top pick to fill the role left vacant by Hong Myung-bo, who resigned in July following South Korea's woeful World Cup campaign in Brazil.

Local media reported that tax issues had been a major factor in the breakdown of the contract talks, while the 62-year-old had also said he wanted to spend more time back home in Europe than in South Korea if he took the job.

"Contract negotiations with Van Marwijk have broken down," the KFA said in a statement. "Lee Yong-soo, head of the KFA's technical committee, will hold a media briefing at 10 a.m. on Monday."

Lee had flown to the Netherlands on Aug. 5 to meet with Van Marwijk, who led the Netherlands to the final of the 2010 World Cup but has been out of work since being fired by German side Hamburg SV in February.

Following Hong's departure in July, the KFA committee narrowed their search for a successor to three foreign coaches, with Van Marwijk their number one choice.

The Koreans are now likely to have an interim manager in charge for friendlies against Venezuela and Uruguay in September.

They also travel to Tehran to play Iran in November as part of their buildup to the 2015 Asian Cup in Australia in January, and are looking to arrange two friendlies in October."

So all four of the nations most likely to play are Arab. Bahrain, Qatar, UAE and Jordan.

I better start ordering some anti-anxiety medication.

Or Iraq in the 1/4 finals

Not very worried about Iraq, but Jordan usually gives us a very tough time.
