This was the usual TM I'm used to seeing. Lack of passing. Aimless long balls (Bezan ziresh ya Zahra!). Soft shots near the goal. It shows the wide gap of quality between our main team and the second team.

    FIRST HALF

Well, nothing to write home about except a couple of concerns about Nekounam and Azmoun and finally something happening and our keeper getting tested.

The match was a bit scrappy and a bit haphazard. But there were other distinguishing factors from previous games. There were less lobs sent skywards from defense. Which is good. Thatís because Hadadifar (who was playing in Andoís spot) was trying to come back to the defense to receive the ball to later on distribute it. Good to see a more logical way to taking the ball up from the old lob and cross fingers to reach your mate.
Azmoun showed good form and confidence to tangle with his markers. Shows he has lost his first cap jitters. But unfortunately he was injured, although it didnít seem very bad.
Right behind him was Ansarifard who had a good interception and a misdirected header early into the game and then dissolved into the background and faded away! The rest of the time he was just running around and nothing more. Very worrying.

Hajsafi came for Shojaei and straight away showed what can be expected from the left. He was full of running, created dangers, helped the defensive midfield duo, cut into the box, Ö all the things we SHOULD see. His single mistake was his one rushed cross and thatís it.

Dejagah was his usual self and needs no explanation. Lets hope he carries this fantastic form into the games.

Mahini was kept on the left and REMINDED us he is quite capable on the left too. If you remember, he was a revelation at Zob Ahan as their fantastic LB.

Finally we see our keeper tested. And both our keeper and defenders showed very susceptible. While the defense shd have done better marking, but for Godís sake, that ball BELONGS TO THE KEEPER. Not only Davari didnít claim that ball, he didnít even move from his line!!! Thatís just unacceptable. The least is you HAVE TO go for the ball and at least try to either claim it or punch it or deflect it. The worst option is to stand your ground which allows time and space to the attackers!
Well, this shd open some eyes to quite a few issues for some people here. We can later discuss these.

Our makeshift defense looks uncoordinated and suspect. But thatís natural as this is the first time they are playing together. And I doubt any of these start before Hosseini, Montazeri or Sadeghi.
Lets hope for a better second half. At least we are forced to come forward and score. Maybe weíll see a more adventurous CQ tactics

    SECOND HALF

Dejagah was eplaced by Rahmani and straight away he showed good combination with Beitashur and Haghighi and created a good danger. And another time he scored a goal off a nice pivot but the ref had whistled a foul.
Haghighi seems very tough and energetic. But needs to be a bit more controlled with his tackles and calm.
Our goal Ė fantastic diagonal by haghighi and even more fantastic move by hajsafi to chest and direct the ball past his marker and a cheeky side pass to Ansarifard (who was invisible up to now), who very nicely slotted the ball into the goal. lovely combination by the three.

RGN misses a good chance after Rahmani persists and fends off tackles to send a through pass to RGN. But it shows RGN is very clever and intelligent to recognize even those half chances and small opportunities to make his move.

Beitashur has done well to make CQ think hard for the RB post

Khalatbari also has shown very lively on the left with his trickery and pace. At the same time if he keeps the ball for too long, he gets bumped off the ball due the severe physical discrepancy.

Far better corners as now we send the balls outside the 6 yard box and at least gives our players a chance to do something.

Lol. The ref whistled without even counting the extra time like he just wanted to get the hell out of here ASAP!!

Okay, I didn't watch the whole game, but here's my cents on the game:
-Beautiful goal by Iran, haters gonna hate on Karim.
    - About damn time Khalatbari got some playing time!!
    - For now, I would prefer Alireza Haghighi in goal, or maybe Davari. Can somebody please give us a resume on his performance today?
    - And for the love of GOD, someone please explain me what happened to Nekounam and Azmoun? And is everyone else okay? no injury on Dejagah, right?
    - Aaaand, those jerseys looked god daamn sexy! If our players can't score ON the field, at least they will be able to do so OUTSIDE the field

Great to see how a mix of A&B side could perform competitively.

What is interesting is how offensive TM becomes with 2 recognised strikers. Playing a deeper role inside the opposition half not just attacking but also defending from the front line. Good food for thought when it comes to the World Cup.
