Also, another major issue I have with the two 'Tehran giants' is how the quality of some players degrades once they go to these two teams. For some of these people, playing in Persepolis or Esteghlal is like climbing to the top of the mountain and as a result, no more must be done. After all, these players are getting the most attention, getting paid the highest salaries, and have the luxury of living in the best parts of Tehran.

Don't get me wrong though, I'd love to see Persepolis and Esteghlal succeed both domestically and internationally. As proud as I am of Sepahan, I have a completely different feeling when I see a team such as Persepolis play an ACL match in a packed Azadi stadium. Unfortunately, these teams rarely justify the support they get through their performances and end up embarrassing themselves.

As for the new Persepolis squad, I really hope they can find a good coach. I'd hate to see the quality of Team Melli's 'better' players (i.e. Mahini, Ghazi, Pouladi) go down as a result of their transfer to Persepolis.
    Couldn't have said it better.

But for me personally, these things make it impossible for me to like such teams. Their success feeds their disease.

    Interview with Eamon Zayed:

So officially as of now we have:

1- one very good goalkeeper and one noname?
    Shahab Gordan and Masood Dastani

2- 6 defenders in total, 4 good ones with no proper replacements?
Jalal Hosseini, Mohsen Bengar, Hossein Mahini, Alireza Noormohammadi, Hossein Kanaani, Mohammad Reza Khanzadeh

3- 8 MF players with an average age of 26 which is great!!!
Hamidreza Aliasgari, Ali Karimi (Captain), Mehdi Mahdavikia (Vice Captain), Mohammad Nouri, Saman Aghazamani, Mehrdad Pouladi, Amir Hossein Feshangchi, Afshin Esmaeilzadeh

4- 6 forwards with an average age of 27 which is also pretty good
Gholamreza Rezaei, Mohammad Ghazi, Éamon Zayed, Hadi Norouzi, Javad Kazemian, Karim Ansarifard

The defense looks short of depth on paper... that's of course assuming that players like Pooladi and Aliasgari are not going to be played as full backs... as for the CBs we were probably better off holding onto at least Nosrati...

As for a defensive midfielder we just don't have anyone! We'll face serious defensive problems like last year when we relied on the slow and terrible Maziar Zareh to stay behind Noori and Karimi... really need to get two reliable defensive midfielders!
